Surrey Summer Invite Review

The Hurricanes had a great time racing short course at the Surrey Summer Invitational July 22-23. For most of the swimmers it was their final meet of the year and a fantastic way to see their improvement through the entire season. Morgan, Quincy and Jessica used the meet as their final tune-up before Canadian Junior Championships in Toronto July 26-30.

We had great distance swimming at the meet! Morgan, Quincy and Tyler all swam their first 1500m Freestyle at the meet. Tyler raced under his AA time standard with a time of 20:55.54, while Morgan (18:51.63) and Quincy (18:57.97) both broke 19 minutes! Lucas dropped 22 seconds in his 1500m Freestyle with a time of 18:41.13! Laura dropped 34 seconds in her 800m Freestyle and swam to her AA time standard! Cami dropped 6 seconds in her 800m Freestyle!

Hurricanes raced to a lot of big milestones at the meet. Jade took off 10 seconds and broke 5:00 for the first time in her 400m Freestyle! Natalie broke 30 seconds for the first time in 50m Freestyle! Lucas went under 1:00 in the 100m Freestyle! Laura broke 1:20 in the 100m Backstroke! Both Quincy and Lucas were faster than 1:10 in the 100m Fly!

Morgan and Quincy both set two new 13-14 year old team records. Morgan went 4:37.85 in the 400m Freestyle and 30.99 in the 50m Butterfly! Quincy was 28.04 in the 50m Freestyle and 1:09.14 in the 100m Butterfly!

Aidan also bettered his 13-14 year old record in the 100m Backstroke with a time of 1:02.80!

Laura raced to 100% best times at the meet! Natalie, Meghan, Jade, Sidney and Tyler were all just missed their best in one event!

Other big drops included:

Keala taking off 6 seconds in her 200m IM and 11 seconds in her 200m Freestyle (with a AA time)!

Meghan was 5 seconds faster in her 200m Freestyle!

Tyler was 6 seconds faster in his 200m Freestyle!

Sidney took off 4 seconds in her 200m IM!

Jade was also 4 seconds faster in her 200m IM!

Natalie dropped 11 seconds off her 200m Breaststroke!

Terrific swimming throughout the weekend! Everyone should be excited for what's to come in 2017-2018!
