FALL 2017 Updates

Hi All,

Well, summer is quickly coming to an end. It has certainly been a time of many program changes. We have added camps, home and away meets, increased contact hours and shattered multiple individual and relay records. More importantly, we have transitioned to a team that expects success and strives for excellence daily.

This transformation happened because of the work of so many of our swim families and our coaching staff. Thank you all for accepting us as your children’s mentors and coaches, and thank you for pitching in and helping throughout the season. I would also like to thank you all for embracing our mission and approach. There are too many people who have donated their time, talents and treasure to our cause to list. Please know that your efforts are appreciated.

Some Summer Highlights

  • New Swim Camp Offerings For Age Group & Senior Swimmers

  • Instituted Well Attended Recreational Meets

  • Had A Wildly Successful Season At FishHawk Ranch

  • Began Offering Seasonal Swim Team Options At Rivercrest

  • Created The Florida Swim League So We Can Offer Affordable, Fast & Family Family Sanctioned Meets

  • Created The Floribbean Swim Festival To Give Our “BB” through Sub-Futures Swimmers And their Families A Destination Meet To Conclude Their Summer Season Each Year

  • We Had Multiple Florida And USA Swimming Top 10 and 20 swims.

  • We Qualified 13 and Sent 11 To The USA Swimming Futures Championships In Nashville

  • Sent Julie Holbrook (70) To Masters Nationals Where She Earned Two Silver Medals; just behind World Record Breaking Swims

What’s Next?

Considering the new pool, the locker room upgrades and the dryland room addition prior to the summer, I think we have accomplished a lot in under a year. While I am happy with our progress, I know we have room for so much more improvement. We are working to create standing committees to help out running meets, welcoming new families and offering more social events. These are all things that long term, highly successful swim teams do well. You will all be offered ways in which you can help in the future. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer as we move forward.

The New Season

We are still in our transitional phase; going from summer to the fall. The goal of these transitional workouts are to simply keep the swimmers in the water so they can maintain the gains they made this season.  We are not offering high intensity training at this time. It is important for our minds and bodies to have some time off. By offering these workouts we can fill the gaps for those who took off earlier in the summer and for those who just feel better by getting in the pool each day. If you are unsure of the modified schedule we sent out for these weeks, it can be reviewed following this link:

I want to re-enforce the time changes for the Fall by listing them at the end of this post. I know I sent this information out in an earlier email, but want to ensure that we are all on the same page come Monday. I will be on vacation the week of the 14th so I want everyone on board with the changes prior to my departure. I will post these changes on our website as soon as possible. If you have questions, please ask them now.

Novice (formally Stroke School)

Sign ups will be available on Team Unify (our website) by Friday so those families can select their time slot for the upcoming season.

Please note. There will be no morning workings the week of the 14th of August. We will resume mornings the following week. More on am workouts in a future post.

As mentioned earlier, the new season officially starts next Monday. The first week, we will focus on getting the swimmers back into the flow of swimming and school. No mornings...and no intense workouts. We will offer aerobic-based sessions each day. The second week, we will begin to offer some more challenging sets.

Your child will be evaluated by our staff during the final two (2) weeks of August. Having all of our younger swimmers start at 5:45pm in the water will make this process much easier. Look for new group assignments prior to the 1st of September.

We are working on a competition schedule for all of our training groups. We will post it as soon as we receive some conformations from other clubs regarding proposed events. Look for that soon.

Thanks again for all of your support. I have been involved in this sport in every way imaginable since 1969. I have been fortunate to be involved with many high performing organizations throughout my career. Rarely have I seen a place with so much potential. There is so much opportunity available to us here with Blue Wave. Know that I work hard each and every day trying to do whatever I can to make each of our members experience the best available anywhere, at any price. Thanks for being a member of the team.

Sincerely,

Rich
