Colorado Springs, Colo Lenoir-Rhyne
University rising sophomore Jacob Queen (Hickory, N.C.) has qualified to
compete in the USA Swimming Short Course National
Championships. The event will take place this December on the
campus of Ohio State University.
Queen holds four school records – 100-yard freestyle (47.48), 200-yard breaststroke (2:05.39), 200-yard individual medley (1:51.88) and 400-yard individual medley (4:00.68) – and earned a national "B" cut time in the 400-yard IM.
"Jacob (Queen) is such a dedicated hard trainer," said Lenoir-Rhyne Head Men's and Women's Swimming Coach Paul Schiffel. "He has high goals and this qualifying time is the first of many. This is the first Senior National time standard one of my swimmers has achieved in many years. He will be competing against the best in the nation. It is a very exciting time for Lenoir-Rhyne University Swimming as well as the Catawba Valley Aquatic Club."
In addition, Queen was named Bluegrass Mountain Conference Swimmer Of The Week on October 18 and is a 2016-17 CSCAA Honorable Mention Scholar All-America honoree.
Recently, Queen finished third in the 100-meter breaststroke (1:05.30) at the 2017 North Carolina Swimming Senior State Championships in Greensboro, N.C..
Queen will also compete in the 2017 USA Swimming Futures Competition in Nashville, Tenn., during the first weekend in August with hopes of qualifying for the U.S. Open, one step below the Olympic Trials.
