06 October 2017 (Toronto, ON) - The final day of the Para Swimming Canadian Open happened last night with Morgan Bird battling out against some of her biggest S8 category rivals. Morgan finished second in the S8 category with a time of 1:10.64 which her put her 8th overall in the larger multi-class event of the 100m freestyle.
The competition ended up being a challenge for the swimmers who were scheduled to be at the IPC World Championships in Mexico City this same week but everyone did a pretty remarkable job all things considered. The Canadian National Team Para Swimmers all contributed to a number of national records in various categories as well as a couple regional (Americas) records and one World’s record. Team Australia was strong in their own right putting up several of their own national records as well as Oceana regional records.
The season ending meet was a change for the top para swimmers in the world including our own Morgan Bird but it was a great finish to a long season and all of these swimmers now will enjoy a well earned break.
