PSW Invitational Review

25 Hurricanes raced at their first competition of the season this past weekend hosted by the Pacific Seawolves in Surrey. This early season meet was the definition of a training meet where swimmers aimed to implement training focuses from the new season into their races. We were looking for longer walls, lower stroke counts, building into walls and using their legs. This meet did not result in a high amount of best times but it was a strong indicator of where our swimmers are at this point of the season, what they need to work on going forward and a motivator for training into our next set of swim meets.

Our young swimmers really led the way taking off time in the majority of their events and looking strong to start the season after time off in the summer. Congratulations to Sarah, Meghan, Tessa, Brooke, Tiger, Alayna and Jonathan for a solid start to the swim season!

A few highlights…
Josh broke through with a great 100m Backstroke racing to a time of 1:17.23!
Sarah had a great first 200m Freestyle!
Josh, Jessie and Tyler all came within a second of breaking the 30second barrier in 50m Freestyle for the first time!
Keala and Emily both dropped a second off of their 50m Freestyle time!
Meghan was just off best times after wearing a brace for most of the season leading up to the meet!
Tessa took off 10 seconds in her 100m Freestyle and 14 seconds in her 200m Individual Medley!
Tiger improved his time by 8 seconds in the 100m Backstroke and 10 seconds in the 200m Individual Medley!
Alayna had a big drop in the 200m Individual Medley, taking off 15 seconds!
Jonathan was really incredible, winning his heats and great times in all three of his swims!
Natalie raced very well, most impressively racing to a 2:52.82 in her 200m Individual Medley!
Kourosh was impressive across the board especially with improvements in the 100m Breaststroke, 100m Butterfly, 50m Freestyle and 200m Individual Medley!
Our more experienced swimmers were mostly off of their best times but it’s important to keep in mind what times we were racing at this same time last year. Our best times improved so much through the season and we are in a great position for a more successful year in 2017-2018!
