DCST National Results (Day 4)
The last day of the YMCA National Championships was the best day for DCST. DCST set 9 new Team Records, had 6 life-time personal best times out of 7 individual swims, and had 2 swimmers earn National All-American honors.
In the 1650 yard Freestyle, DCST’s distance swimmers had tremendous time drops: Emily Launer dropped over 32 seconds, Grant Alef dropped over 20 seconds, and Valerie Jones dropped 4.5 seconds. These time drops earned Emily and Grant National All-American honors with 8th and 13th place finishes respectively. Both times were also new DCST Team Records. Emily and Grant are now in a three way time with Matt Chambers for being named a National All-American the most times (18 times) in the history of DCST.
In the 100 yard Breaststroke, Michael Gordon dropped 1.2 seconds, set a new DCST Team Record and finished 19th. His first 50 of the 100 yard Breaststroke also set a new DCST Team Record. Valerie Jones also had an impressive 100 Breaststroke swim with a 1.6 time drop.
In the 200 yard Butterfly, Katie Hallenbeck had an awesome day with a 21st place finish in prelims, a new DCST Team Record, and a 0.8 second time improvement. In finals, she dropped an additional 1.1 seconds and finished 20th.
DCST’s relays also had very productive days. The Men’s 200 Freestyle Relay of Gordon, Cory Page, Alef and Chad Thompson dropped 2.1 seconds from their seed time, set a new DCST Team Record by 1.4 seconds and placed 24th. Michael Gordon lead off the relay with a new DCST Team Record in the 50 free. The women’s relay consisting of Launer, Sharron Isola, Valerie Jones and Casey Jepsen dropped 0.4 seconds from their seed time.
In the 400 Medley Relay, Launer, Jones and Jepsen teamed up with Hallenbeck to set a new DCST Team Record by 3.5 seconds with a 25th place finish. Emily Launer lead off the relay with a new DCST Team Record in the 100 yard Backstroke. The men’s team of Alef, Gordon, Thompson and Page had a nice swim with a 3.2 second time improvement.
Team highlights for the week: DCST swimmers were named National All-American 5 times, had 39 career individual best times, and set 27 DCST Team Records.

Valerie Jones – Had 6 individual best times and set 3 DCST Team Records.
Emily Launer – Named National All-American 3 times, had 7 individual best times, and set 6 DCST Team Records.
Cory Page – Had 1 individual best time and set 4 DCST Team Records.
Chad Thompson – Had 6 individual best times and set 5 DCST Team Records.
Casey Jepsen – Set 1 DCST Team Record.
