RENO News - 1/15/18

Good Morning,

Congratulations to all the swimmers who participated in the Blizzard Blast swim meet! Please read through this email for more on the meet and other important Reno Aquatic Club news.

Sunday Practices Cancelled

I have made the decision to cancel Sunday practices for the Pre-Senior and Senior groups for the time being. This will go into effect immediately. A few reasons went into this decision:

The coaching staff feels it is important for the swimmers (and coaches) to have one complete day off. This allows for a chance to spend time with family, catch-up on school work, and allow your body to recover and get stronger.

Also, since a majority of swim meets take place in the morning, it is important for our Pre-Senior and Senior swimmers to get adjusted to swimming in the morning,

If you have any questions or concerns on the cancelation of Sundays, please contact me.

The other proposed practice changes discussed at the group meeting last week will not go into effect yet. I will keep you posted and give you plenty of notice for any major changes.

RENO will have normal practice schedule this week including practice this evening.

Blizzard Blast Swim Meet

RENO swimmers performed very well at this weekend’s swim meet in Carson City! Several swimmers posted best times and many participated in their first official swim meet. RENO swimmers won multiple events and high point awards. Be sure to like the RENO Facebook page as we will be posting who won high-point later this week.

Melanie and I are really happy with how the swimmers performed. We also saw many areas where the team can improve. We will focus on these in the coming weeks.

A big thanks to all the parents for the support this weekend. Whether you volunteered to time, were an official, or just brought your child to the pool and cheered, meets would not be possible without you. Thank you!

Next Swim Meet – February 9-11 at Minden

The next meet is the Mardi Gras Mania hosted by the Douglas Dolfins. The coaching staff recommends the following:

  • The meet is optional for Mini swimmers. Check with Coach Melanie if your child is ready for a meet and what events he/she should register for.
  • Age Group swimmers should participate in a minimum of one day at the meet.
  • Pre-Senior and Senior coaches will notify the swimmers what days/events to register for.

Registration closes at midnight on January 31.

What Events Should Your Child Swim at Meets?

If you are registering your child for his/her first meet, or you are signing them up for an event he/she has never swam, please consult with your child’s coach to be sure they are ready for that event(s). It is important to challenge our swimmers with new and/or tough events, but we also want to be sure they are in the best possible position for success.

Pacific Zone 4 All Star Meet

The annual Pacific Swimming All Star meet is set for March 4 in Carson City. To be eligible to apply, your child must be 14 or younger and have 3 “BB” time standards (8 and under swimmers have a slightly different qualification criteria).

If your child meets the qualifications, the coaching staff highly recommends he/she applies. If your child has not applied, the application must be postmarked by this Wednesday, January 17. If you are unsure if your child is eligible to apply, please contact your child’s coach.

In addition, I am excited to announce that Coach Melanie has been selected as the 11-12 girls coach for Zone 4. Way to go, Melanie!

Office Hours

I am still in the process of finalizing my office hours. In the meantime, if you would like to set-up a time to meet, please let me know.

Thank you and go RENO!
