Great news came out of yesterday’s city council meeting! There was unanimous support to continue the process of rebuilding Moana Pool. There is still work to be done before the construction can begin, but yesterday was a big step in the right direction.
Throughout the meeting, several council members commented on the impressive outpouring of support from the community for a new aquatic facility. A big thanks to all of you who took the time to share your thoughts with city council.
Also, a big thank you to Sierra Nevada Community Aquatics for their hard work over the last 10-years. The SNCA board, specifically Chip Hobson and Mike Ginsburg, have been persistent and sacrificed many hours throughout this entire process. Here is SNCA’s email after yesterday’s meeting:
“Reno City Council provided unanimous support today for a motion directing staff to initiate sharing in the process of a capital campaign as co-leaders with Sierra Nevada Community Aquatics, Inc. (SNCA) and to evaluate the use of room tax as a means of supporting operations to be presented as part of the budget process with input provided by the Financial Advisory Board.
SNCA would like to thank the Council and Staff for providing this affirmative direction which will enable us to work in partnership to move the much needed Moana Springs Pool forward.
Additional thanks goes out to the community for the incredible support for the project demonstrated through attendance and written comment. Multiple Councilors mentioned the volume of supportive contacts received and the excellent show of community wide support that was demonstrated through your actions.
SNCA and City of Reno Staff will immediately begin to work toward the steps necessary to move the project forward and will certainly require the continued support of this community.
Your continued support of the need for expanded aquatics facilities in the region is greatly appreciated. Should you have any questions about how you can help e-mail us at email@example.com “
Have a great day,
