RENO News - 2/12/18

Good Afternoon,

I hope everyone is enjoying the snow! Here are some important Reno Aquatic Club updates:

Minden Swim Meet

Thank you to all the swimmers for participating in last weekend’s Mardi Gras Mania swim meet in Minden. RENO had the 2nd most swimmers participating in the meet. We only had two less swimmers than the host team, the Douglas Dolfins. It was great to see such a strong showing.

Also, thank you to the parents for getting your kids to the meet and timing. The RENO timing chairs were always filled. These meets would not be possible without your help.

The coaching staff is very pleased with the results! RENO swimmers had several best times, achieved new Junior Olympic and Far Western qualifications, individuals won high point trophies, and there were visible improvements from the last meet in Carson City. Way to go, RENO!

Click here for the meet results.

Also, be sure to “like” the RENO Facebook page. We will post the high point winners later this week on Facebook.

Next Swim Meets

The next local swim meet will be NNA Age Group Open on March 24 - 25 at Northwest Pool in Reno.  Click here for more information. The registration deadline is Wednesday, March 14 at midnight.

Qualified RENO swimmers will also be participating in the following meets. If your child is qualified and should attend, your child’s coach will communicate this with your swimmer.

  • Pacific Zone All Star Meet – March 4 (Carson City)
  • Junior Olympics – March 16 - 18 (Pleasanton, CA)
  • Far Westerns – April 5 - 8 (Santa Clara, CA)

RENO’s annual fundraiser, SWIM 4 FUND$, will take place Saturday, February 24 from 4:30 – 6:30 PM in Carson City. Last week, your child should have received an envelope with more information. If you did not receive the envelope and/or have questions on the event, please contact me. Thank you for your support with this important fundraiser!

 Spring Break – No Practice April 2 - 7

There will be NO practice for all groups during the week of April 2nd. Normal practice will resume on Monday, April 9. The main reason for this break is Northwest Pool will be shut down for a week of maintenance. The City of Reno will be installing a new UV filter for the pool. This should greatly improve the air quality in the facility.

For swimmers participating in the Far Western Championship, I am working on securing pool space in Carson City on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday during the Northwest shutdown. This limited pool space will only be available for those swimmers going to the meet. I will have more details soon.

As always, please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you!
