Tier I Champs Review

The Hurricanes were represented by five girls at the SwimBC Tier I Championships this past weekend in Penticton. Sidney, Keala, Meghan, Emily and Natalie did an incredible job racing to 10th place in female points and 18th place in overall points! All five swimmers contributed points with top 16 finishes in individual and relay events to help us beat a lot of big teams in the province.

On Friday we got off to a great start with Meghan, Natalie and Emily all swimming to big drops in the 200m Backstroke including a new Tier I time for Meghan, Emily breaking 3:00 and Natalie breaking 2:50. Natalie and Emily raced to new bests in the 50m Freestyle. Sidney improved her team record in the 200m Butterfly. The big highlight was our 4x50m Freestyle Relay team of Natalie, Keala, Emily and Sidney racing to a Bronze Medal with a fast time of 2:02.78! Only the second provincial relay medal Hollyburn has won!

Saturday started off with the 200m IM, Emily broke 3:00 for the first time, Natalie had a big improvement and Sidney raced all the way under the Tier II 14&under standard for the event. In the 100m Breaststroke Natalie had her first time under 1:30 and Sidney had a very fast time of 1:22.60. Meghan raced to her Tier I time in the 100m Freestyle with Natalie and Emily also racing to best times. In the 400m Freestyle Meghan took off time and Emily took off over a minute. Sidney just missed a medal in the 400m Freestyle with an inspirational 4:53.63, setting a new 12&under club record.

The 200m Freestyle was the first event Sunday, with everyone racing to best times. Meghan raced to her Tier I time, Emily broke 2:50, Natalie broke 2:30 and Sidney was way under 2:30. Meghan improved her time in the 200m Breaststroke. Sidney had the 200m Breaststroke we have been training for, racing to first place with a time of 2:53.76, out touching four girls by a second for the win! Sidney bettered her time by over nine seconds and was easily under the Tier II standard. In the 100m Butterfly both Natalie and Sidney were way under the club record, Natalie swam a 1:13.81 and Sidney finished with a 1:11.48. Both times were new Tier II 14&under standards for Natalie and Sidney. We had another incredible relay result racing to 4th place in the 4x50m Medley Relay with the team of Natalie, Sidney, Emily and Keala all racing to great times! Natalie finished her meet with a great 100m Backstroke time of 1:16.21. Sidney had just an outstanding 400m Individual Medley racing to a time of 5:28.81 and finishing with a bronze medal. The time was another Tier II standard and dropped over 10 seconds off of her club record.
