Hollyburn Invitational Meet Review

Hollyburn Invitational Meet Review

Our first official Hollyburn Invitational was a huge success! In total we had 234 swimmers from five different teams compete at our pool over the two session meet.  54 of our Hurricanes raced over the two days and it was amazing to have such a huge presence from our team on deck. Our team was represented by swimmers at all levels and it was great to have everyone together throughout the weekend. The pool really looked good packed with swimmers, officials, coaches and spectators!

This was a big undertaking by our team and I would really like to thank the parents and swimmers who helped out to make the meet run smoothly. We had numerous parents volunteer to official and organize food throughout the weekend, many who helped through both sessions. Our older swimmers stepped up on the Sunday session when they weren’t in the water and really assisted with timing and food. I have only heard great feedback from the other clubs and it is all due to the help from everyone who put time in over the weekend.

We also had a lot of great swimming over the weekend! The energy in the pool was fantastic and it was a lot of fun watching everyone race to take off time and move up in their heats! The relays were especially fun and led to some exciting finishes. CDSC had over 100 swimmers at the meet and our team of 54 swimmers outscored them in total points 1734.5 to 1715.5, great to be on top at our first hosted meet as well!

We had two new swimmers qualify for LMR meets by breaking 4:00 in the 200m Individual Medley! Alessandra raced to a time of 3:59.04, 21 seconds under her previous best time! Claire dropped 12 seconds to finish with a time of 3:56.43!

Congratulations to all of our Discover swimmers who raced 50m events for the first time! Great job Adriana, Saige, Payton, Rebecca, Dominic, Emma, Phillipa, Cameron, Kiera, Chloe, Jialu, Roger and Marcus!

We also had swimmers race 100m events for the first time! Way to go Claire, Esme, Saige, Jason, Alessandra, Mikayla, Declan, Shae, Erika, Kiersa, Cameron, Kennedy, Kiera, James, Andy, Sarah and Marcus!

Ella raced in her first swim meet in over two years and did a fantastic job racing and dropping 20-40 seconds off her old best times!

Meghan had a great meet, as she raced towards our 10&under record book, she broke two team records in the 50m Freestyle and 100m Freestyle and was very close in her backstroke and butterfly events.

A few more team records were broken with Sidney having a very impressive 200m IM swimming to a time of 2:34.18! She’s 12 and is within four seconds of the fastest 200m IM in the history of our club. Quincy lowered her 50m Fly record and almost broke 30 seconds with a time of 30.13! Cami broke the girls record in the 100m Backstroke by over a second with a time of 1:07.11, the previous record holder, Jennifer Darling had a lot of success at Age Group Nationals and went on to have a great varsity career.

We have two more opportunities to race as a team this season! The Whistler Invitational May 26-27 is a similar format as our meet with two afternoon sessions for swimmers of all ages. We are also traveling as a team to the Kamloops Invitational on June 1-3. This is a fun meet in a long course pool (50m each length), swimmers of all ages are welcome and we will be taking a team bus! If you have questions for either meet please ask your coaches, we would like to take a big team to each event to build on the success from our Hollyburn Invitational!
