Our Team Travel Meet to Kamloops was a big success! We had 24 swimmers make the trip representing all the training groups from our team. It was the first long course meet for most of our 10&under swimmers. Fantastic work by Payton, Rebecca, Esme, Brooke, Declan and Shae racing in the 50m pool for the first time, while Addison had her second long course meet with great results! The meet was a great racing opportunity for our 11&overs with heats and finals and a busy event schedule through the weekend. Our team swam well in heats each day and did such a tremendous job of improving their times and placing in finals each day of the meet.
The 10&unders all were so impressive with their racing
throughout the weekend. A few highlights:
Addison had a tremendous 200m Freestyle, racing well under her best short course time!
Payton swam under his best times in both of his events, the 50m Freestyle and 50m Breaststroke!
Rebecca’s 100m Freestyle was a big drop in time as she raced aggressively from the start!
Esme really worked her kick in her backstroke events finishing with bests in both the 50m and 100m!
Declan had an incredible meet especially in the 100m Freestyle swimming to a time of 1:45!
Shae had a great 100m Freestyle in a time of 1:49, she has great entries and reach in all of her strokes!
Brooke took off a lot of time from her short course best times in her freestyle events and had a fantastic 50m Backstroke to lead off our 11-12 year old 4x50m Medley Relay! Brooke’s time of 42.50 set a new 10&under club record!
Jessica had a very strong meet with highlights in her breaststroke events. She qualified to swim the 200m Breaststroke at Canadian Junior Championships with a best time of 2:48.90! Jessica has been working on her race strategy and did a great job making improvements from heats to finals to add her second event for the big meet of this summer! She also set a new club record in the 50m Breaststroke, breaking 35 for the first time long course and finishing with a 34.87!
Lucas had a few big breakthroughs at the meet, he has been trying to break 27 seconds long course all season and broke it in heats with a 26.98, finals 26.74 and again leading off the relay 26.85! He also raced to great times of 58.64 and 58.53 in the 100m Freestyle! Lucas had a swim off in the 200m Freestyle after already racing the 200m Freestyle, 100m Butterfly and 200m Backstroke that morning and had a great swim of 2:13.34 setting a new best time and easily winning his swim off!
Tyler had a great meet to celebrate his birthday weekend! He was .01 away from all best times and had outstanding butterfly results with a time of 31.25 in the 50m and 1:12.08 in the 100m events!
Morgan had a fantastic 50m Butterfly, setting a new club record with a time of 30.63! She also had a very strong 50m Breaststroke!
Josh raced to another Tier II qualifying time in the 100m Backstroke, racing to a time of 1:12.02! He swam very well in finals each day, improving his position and adding a lot of speed.
Thomas broke 30 for the first time in the 50m Butterfly with a time of 29.96 in heats and did it again with a 29.65 in finals! He also had a great 200m Freestyle final, taking the lead from the start and keeping it the entire race! Thomas took off over four seconds and finished with a 2:12.11!
Keala was .01 from taking off time in all eight of her events, she had a great meet and broke 1:10 for the first time in the 100m Freestyle with a time of 1:09.45!
Tessa took off big amounts of time in seven of her eight events and made finals at her first heats and finals meet in the 50m Breaststroke!
Cami continued to improve her 200m Backstroke racing to a time of 2:31.42 just .07 over our team record! Somehow she took off 12 seconds from her previous 100m Freestyle time finishing with a 1:06.19, she should probably swim 100m Freestyle more often.
Olivia had a solid meet racing to her best times in multiple events including a big drop in her 200m Backstroke and 50m Butterfly!
Emily continues to improve and had big drops in her long course times as they reached many of her short course bests.
Avery raced to her best 100m Breaststroke time and had very strong race strategy to win both the 100m and 200m Breaststroke events.
Quincy raced the 50m Freestyle five times throughout the weekend between heats, finals, leading off the relay, qualifying for the top 4 50m Freestyle Eliminator and racing to the top 2 50m Freestyle Eliminator. She started off with a time of 27.92, then swam 27.71, 27.63, 27.33 and finished with a team record 27.10!
Our relays were great through the meet with our 13-14 girls easily racing to gold in both the 4x50m Freestyle Relay and the 4x50m Medley Relay! The freestyle relay was just three seconds over the BC Provincial Record! Congratulations to Quincy, Jessica, Olivia and Morgan! Our 10&unders did a fantastic job as well, our 4x50m Medley Relay team of Esme, Addison, Brooke and Rebecca finished with the bronze medal!
A big thanks to Jade, Sophie, Grace and Laura who helped coach and video throughout the weekend! They did a great job supporting their teammates and making my life easier. Also thanks to Susan, Katerina and Tammy who all assisted with chaperoning the swimmers. The meet went by very smoothly and it was a big help getting swimmers organized for meals, at the hotel and at the meet.
