RENO News - 6/11/2018

Good Morning,

Today is the last day of school for many of our swimmers. I hope they have a great last day and are excited for summer. This week’s email has some very important information. Please read through and let me know if you have any questions. Thanks!

Summer Schedule

As a reminder, due to the delay of the Idlewild project, we are NOT starting our summer schedule today. We will continue with the normal schedule this week. I have not heard if Idlewild will be ready next Monday. I am meeting with the City of Reno today, and I should have more info. I will communicate any changes as soon as possible.

Summer Sanders Swim Meet

This past weekend, 14 RENO swimmers attended the Summer Sanders Meet in Roseville, CA. The senior-level meet is very competitive and there were teams from Arizona, California, Idaho, Washington, and Nevada. There was also an all-star team from Texas and several college swimmers competing.

Going into the weekend, our swimmers were in the middle of a very challenging training block. I was expecting some solid swims, but the RENO swimmers stepped up and produced some outstanding performances! I was really happy with the results and our swimmers are progressing very well. Here are some highlights:

-- RENO swimmers produced 50 best times out of 88 swims (57% best time rate). I would expect a best time rate of 57% for senior-level swimmers to happen at the end of the season championship meet, not a mid-season meet.

-- Six swimmers qualified for second swims:

  • Julie Abrigonde – 200 Back
  • Katelyn Buono – 200 IM, 400 IM
  • Emma Karam – 100 Back, 200 Back
  • Alexia Taylor-Arredondo – 50 Free, 100 Free
  • Nathan McAlister – 100 Fly, 200 Back, 200 IM, 400 IM
  • Aidan Pflieger – 1500 Free (timed final event but would have made finals)

-- Three new swimmers achieved Sectional qualifying standards:

  • Julie Abrigonde – 100 Back
  • Katelyn Buono – 200 IM, 400 IM
  • Nathan McAlister – 100 Fly

-- In January, RENO only had two swimmers with Sectional time standards. We now have seven swimmers, including one swimmer with Futures cuts!
