BC Summer Games Review

The Hurricanes were represented by six swimmers at the BC Summer Games this past weekend. Sidney Clement, Josh DeCoteau, Keala Haigh, Emily Jones, Tyler Winsborrow and Natalie Yu all had a great time in a fun racing environment.

Here are the highlights from the swim meet.

Josh had an amazing meet, racing to best times in all of his events! He took off 20 seconds in his 400m IM to finish 4th overall with a 5:08.33 and also dropped 14 seconds from his best time in the 400m Freestyle to finish with a 4:33.72 for 5th! Josh also broke 2:30 for the first time in both the 200m Backstroke with a 2:28.89 and 200m IM in a 2:29.74! Josh went best times in his 100m Freestyle and 200m Freestyle as well. He saved his best for his last with his 800m Freestyle on Sunday, racing to a Silver Medal with a fast time of 9:23.95, 22 seconds under his previous best! Josh then sprinted to a 27.29 on his 4x50m Freestyle Relay!

Tyler’s freestyle swims were all fantastic, racing to bests in the 50m, 100m, 200m and 1500m Freestyle events. He broke 2:20 for the first time in the 200m Freestyle, went 1:01.37 in his 100m Freestyle and took off 55 seconds in the 1500m Freestyle, almost breaking 20 minutes with a 20:00.11! He also was a best time in the 100m Backstroke. Tyler also went 27.59 on his 4x50m Freestyle Relay!

Sidney had a great 1500m Freestyle knocking off 45 seconds from her best time, finishing with a time of 19:28.98 for 4th place! Sidney also finished 6th overall in the 400m IM and 8th in the 200m Breaststroke! She also went a best time on her 4x50m Freestyle Relay!

Keala broke 30 seconds for the first time in the 50m Freestyle with a time of 29.84! She also swam to best times in her 200m, 400m and 800m Freestyle events which included a 22 second improvement in her 400!

Emily raced to a best time in her 50m Freestyle and was just over her best times in her other events. She also had a great swim on her 4x50m Freestyle Relay!

Natalie had an impressive swim in her 200m Backstroke, racing to the Tier II standard with a time of 2:38.97! She also went a 28.87 in her 4x50m Freestyle Relay!

It was great to see so many of our team participating in the games, we also had Cami Hill competing in the Triathlon events, with three 4th place finishes!
