GOOD LUCK at FAR WESTERN
CHAMPS!
We would like to wish a special “GOOD
LUCK” to our 7 VJO swimmers that are qualified and
competing at the 2018 Long Course Far Western Championships. The
meet will be held at the Campolindo High School Pool in Moraga this
Thursday through Sunday. Yes you read correctly it is a 4 day long
meet. Teams will be coming from all over the Nation and from out of
the country to compete at this elite Age Group level meet. If you
have time, come on down and help cheer on our VJO swimmers. Good
luck to Gabe Cueva (13), Raffy Cueva (10), Mikaela
deVera-Gomez (14), Amanda Luna (10) Nathan Jellison (16), Eliana
Matteo (15) and Jericho Putong (15). Go

FUN SWIMMING &
CAMPING UKIAH!
So much fun was had at the Ukiah meet swimming and camping. The
parent/coach vs officials relays were a huge highlight. Our
swimmers achieved over 122 personal best times, 15 new "B" times, 9
new "BB" times, 11 new "A" times, 2 new "JO" times, 2 new FW
times and a new team record. Way to go VJO swimmers! A big
shout out to all our families for bringing food to share. Special
thank you to Jose Caranza for bringing all our ez-ups and setting
us up in the best location AND hauling his smoker all the way to
Ukiah. Special shout out to DJ Niki Matteo for all the great music.
Special shout out to Joe Sapida and Ed Kawashiri for getting
up at 5 to make our swimmers a great breakfast. Lastly a big thank
you to our amazing Officials Phil Grant and Mike Abegg. Great
Job Sharks!!!!




***Congratulations to Mackenzie Kawashiri for setting a new team
record in the 11-12 girls 200 fly at the Ukiah Meet. She swam a
2:36.54, breaking a 14 year old record, origonal set by
Kaitlyn Lynch in 2004. Great job Mac n Cheese, we are so proud of
you! ***

ELINA ROSARIO REPRESENTS
VJO at SPEEDO SECTIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
While our Age Group swimmers were competing in Ukiah, we had a
Senior level swimmer competing in Southern California. Elina
Rosario (18) competed in the 2018 Speedo Sectional Championships,
July 19-22 in Santa Clarita. She competed in the 100 free, 200
breast, 50 free and 100 breast. On her last day of the meet she had
an incredible 100 breaststroke finals swim. She dropped almost 2
seconds with a 1:12.65 and finished 6th overall in the State. She
also earned herself a first ever Summer Junior National cut and set
a new team record. Way to go Elina! We are so proud of
you!
Thank you for taking time out of your college carrer and
continuing to represent VJO. You continue to inspire all our
younger swimmers. Go SHARKS!

PRIDE DAY
Thursday, July 26th (All
Groups, 5-7pm)
This Thursday, July 26th
is Shark Pride Day. On this day all groups
will be swimming together
from 5:00-7:00pm. We want to encourage
team unity by having the entire swim team practice
together. Everyone will be warming up together working on
skills together and playing games together. We will do fun
games and relays at the end. Show off
your Shark spirit! Wear your turquoise team shirt
to school and around town on this day. We will give all
swimmers a team tattoo that are wearing their team shirt on this
day. This will be a team building day with a great
opportunity to get to know swimmers in other groups.
COACH JENNIFER’S GROUPS COMBINED this
FRIDAY
This
Thursday through Sunday (July 26-29) Coach Jennifer will be
attending the 2018 Far Western Championships in Moraga with our 7
qualified VJO swimmers. While Coach Jennifer is attending the meet,
Coach Sophie will be taking care of her groups. All Coach
Jennifer’s groups (SR, JR2 and MS) will be practicing at the
same times on Friday July 27th, her groups will just be combined
with Coach Sophie’s groups.

It’s time to start getting ready for REAL Summer
Championships! The theme for REAL Championships this year is
Hawaiian Luau. Start getting your Hawaiian Luau costumes ready for
the REAL costume parade. We are dividing the practice times
during Spirt Week by ages. Swimmers 11 years and older will
practice from 4:30-6:30pm and swimmers 10 years of age and younger
will practice from 6:00-7:30pm. This will enable our swimmers
to be able to work together on their REAL Relays (8&Under,
9-10, 11-12 & 13 & Over) and team cheers. This will
also give our older swimmers a chance to help work with some of our
younger swimmers.

REAL Championships.

On this day we will be focusing on
and running through all our relays for REAL’s. Make sure you
are here this day so you can work on your relays with ALL your
relay mates.
Thursday Aug
2nd – Carbo Load
Day
On this day we will be having a
carbo filled potluck after practice. More info on the Carbo Load
Potluck to follow soon.
SWIM-A-THON
UPDATE

This is the last week to turn in
Shark-A-Thon donations. Our current fundraising is $6,037 we
are a little over halfway to our goal with only a week to go
to turn in money. Sarah Melanephy will keep updating
the fundraising lane line online updated. Keep bringing
in those donation, we are almost there! There are some fantastic
Swim-A-Thon prizes to be won.

SUMMER PRE-TEAM SWIM PROGRAM 2018 (May
1st –Oct
30th 2018)
Vallejo Aquatics
is excited to offer the Summer Pre-Team Swim Program; designed for
beginner level swimmers wanting to join and be part of the swim
team. Our Pre-Team Program will start May 1st. This program is the
perfect way to learn to swim and get swim team ready. Our
professional coach staff will teach you to:
- Swim a length of the pool (25 yards) freestyle using side breathing
- Swim and length of the pool (25 yards) backstroke without stopping
- Learn the basics of breaststroke
- Learn the basics of butterfly
- Learn a front somersault
- Learn a head first dive
Requirements: Must
be able to swim a length of the pool (25 yards) and be comfortable
in the deep end.
Schedule: 6:00-6:45pm
Monday-Thursday
Fees: $80
per month & $45 Pacific Swimming Summer Registration Fee

The 2018 Summer
Long Course Far Western Championships Meet on July
26-29th is CLOSED for entries. The meet
will be held at Campolindo High School in Moraga. This is a
qualifying meet, all swimmers must have achieved the FW time
standard to enter this meet.

ENTRY
DEADLINE: Tuesday, July 24th by 7:30pm
ENTRIES: Swimmers may compete
in one individual event Friday night and
up to 3 individual events, plus relays on
Saturday and Sunday. Team entries
will be done by Hy-Tek Team Manager so all paper consolidated entry
forms must be turned in by Tuesday, July
24th by 7:30pm to the manila folder
at the pool. The manila folder can be found hanging on the
team bulletin board next to the Shark Tank.
- Swim your
best events! This is a Championship Meet and we are
going for points. Talk to your coach if you have any questions on
what events to swim.
- All
swimmers entered in meet will be ENTERED IN
RELAYS unless coaches are otherwise informed. Count
on being in a relay.
RELAYS: Coaches will enter the
relays. We will put ALL entered VJO swimmers in relays, so
please notify the coaches if you are not able to be in a
relay. VJO will cover the cost of relays.
START
TIME: Swimmer are expected to arrive
by 3:45pm to warm-up on Friday and
arrive on Saturday and Sunday morning
by 7:30am to warm-up. The meet will start at
5:00pm on Friday and 9:00am on Saturday and Sunday. The start time
of finals (~4pm) will be announced each morning.
FINALS: The
top 16 swimmers in each event will move on to swim in finals. All 8
& Under events and 9-10 relays will be swum as timed finals (in
the morning session). Longer events will also be swum as timed
finals. Please check the meet sheet for the list of timed
final events.
SPIRIT AWARD & COSTUME
PARADE : The REAL theme this year
is Hawaiian Luau. We will all be
dressing up in the Hawaiian Luau fashion. Breakout your
Hawaiian shirts and hula skirts. We are trying to win the SPIRT
AWARD this year! There will be a Costume Parade held Saturday
before finals, make sure you have your costumes ready. Lots of
items you already have at home could be used for a costume. All VJO
swimmers please show your team spirit and dress with the
Hawaiian Luau theme for the parade. Let’s get that
SPIRIT AWARD!
SATURDAY TEAM
LUNCH: On Saturday afternoon, between trials and
finals we will be having a team lunch together at the pool.
More info on the team lunch will be sent out after we get a head
count.
