Western Zones Senior Championship

12 RENO swimmers traveled to Clovis, CA to compete in the Western Zone Senior Championship on July 31 – August 4. There were 1,250+ swimmers from 10 states. The meet is so large they host prelims at two different facilities then combine the times from both facilities for finals.

A big thanks to Melanie Klaren for being a coach/chaperone for RENO at Western Zones. Logistically this meet can be very challenging. Melanie was a huge help for the team. Thank you, Melanie!

RENO swimmers had an outstanding meet. In team scores, the RENO girls finished 15th out of 110+ teams! Here’s how each swimmer did:

Julie Abrgidone: Best time in three events, second swim in the 100 back (36th place), and scored points as a member of the 400-medley relay.

Elena Aramini: 4 out of 6 best times

Katelyn Buono: second swims in the 200 IM (12th place) and 400 IM (12th place) and right on her bests in all events

Addison Crain: 100% best times and scored points as a member of the 400-medley relay

Lydia Dyer: 100% best times

Mallory Jennings: 100% best times

Emma Karam: second swims in the 100 back (6th place) and 200 back (10th place), scored points as a member of the 400-medley relay, and 4 out of 5 best times

Allison Kulikowski: lifetime best in the 1500 free and 2nd fastest times in her other 3 events

Nathan McAlister: 6 out of 7 best times

Aidan Pflieger: 3 out of 4 best times

Claire Trevithick: Requalified for Sectionals in the 200 free, 2nd fastest time in multiple events, and scored points as a member of the 400-medley relay.

Nicole Van Geel: 3 best times and 2nd fastest 200 back

Congratulations to all the swimmers for an outstanding meet!

Futures Championships

While Western Zones was taking place, the Futures Championship in Santa Clara, CA was going on. RENO’s Alexia Taylor-Arredondo swam at Futures and had a very good meet. She was right on her best times in all three events and swam her second fastest 50 and 200 free. Way to go, Alexia!

Western Zone Age Group All-Star Meet

During the team break, RENO’s Aidan Pflieger participated in the Western Zone All-Star meet in Roseville, CA. This meet is a very competitive 14-and-under all-star meet. Aidan was selected for the Pacific All-Star team. Aidan had a best time in his 200 back, great splits in the 200 and 400 free relay, and was right on his bests in his other events. He was at a swim meet for almost 2 weeks straight – awesome swimming, Aidan!

Meet Schedule

The next meets RENO will be attending are the following:

  • September 13 - 15 -- Molly Lahlum Memorial Autumn Freeze / Minden, NV
  • October 19 - 21 -- RENO's King of the Hill / Carson City, NV
  • November 9 - 12 -- Nevada State Championship / Henderson, NV

I am very happy with the progress RENO has made in such a short time. Let’s keep up the momentum!
