Coaches Korner by Andy Lehner
Swimmers graduate from one group to the next higher group based on feedback from the swimmer’s current coach of record. The athlete’s coach bases the decision on ability, age, physique, attendance, work ethic, and swim meet attendance, as well as, space availability in the next group. The coaches meet on a regular basis and decide on which swimmers to move up. Usually swimmers switch groups on the first of each month beginning in September, January, or May.
I would like to point out that in the long course swim meets that we have attended the seed times were conversions which some of the kids have never achieved. I thought our performances were indicative of the first few swim meets of the year with the results being average for the most part. Remember that we have not had any long course practices this season and our swimmers were tentative.
Seventeen swimmers from the Red and Black Team attended a training camp at the United States Naval Academy this past weekend. I organized the trip with our generous host the Head Coach of NAAC, Coach Tom Slear. It was a great experience for our swimmers. They swam two good long course workouts and had a lot of fun.
Senior Red and Black swimmers should take advantage of all the long course practices this summer. We have specific practices for Age Group II this summer as well. The dates will be announced in the next couple of days.
