RENO News - 9/17/2018

I hope everyone had a great weekend! Please read through this email for important Reno Aquatic Club news.

Practice Schedule for Tonight – Monday, September 17

Normal practice schedule for the Orange (4 – 5 PM), Pre-Senior (5 – 6 PM), and Mini RENO (6:00 – 6:30 PM). No practice for the Senior and National groups this evening; there will be morning practice for these groups tomorrow.

Minden Meet Recap

I am very happy with how the Minden meet went for Reno Aquatic Club! We had several best times, state cuts, first place finishes, and high point winners. Congratulations to Oliver Raker (8-under), Al Sambrano (11-12 runner-up), Addison Crain (13-14 girls), and Aidan Pflieger (13-14 boys) for their high-point awards!

Not only did we have great swims in the pool, but I am also really happy to see how RENO did in other facets of the meet. Our timing chairs were always filled, I don’t believe we had one swimmer miss an event, team spirit was high, our swimmers got in for warm-up on time, and a large percentage of the officials were RENO parents.

At this meet last year, RENO had 22 swimmers. This year, we had 57. The progress this team has made over the last year is very exciting. The future is bright for Reno Aquatic Club!

A big thank you to all the parents for bringing your child to the meet. We also appreciate those parents who timed – meets would not be possible without timers.

Finally, a BIG thank you to our RENO parents for being officials. As mentioned earlier, a large portion of the officials at the meet were RENO parents. The coaching staff and swimmers greatly appreciate your time and effort.

We Need More Officials

Speaking of officials, we do have a severe shortage of officials for our local meets (it’s actually becoming a problem throughout all of Pacific/USA Swimming). Many of RENO’s current officials have swimmers who are older. There are two problems with this:

- Several of the swimmers will soon be graduating high school and moving on from RENO, and we will lose their parents as officials.

- In split-session meets – like Minden – the younger session is minimally staffed and it puts a lot of strain on those officials.

If you have an interest in becoming more involved, I encourage you to become an official. You do not have to have any swim experience. We are lucky to have a great training situation in Northern Nevada, and they will teach you everything you need to know.

Being an official helps you satisfy RENO’s volunteer requirements plus you get a front-row seat and free food at swim meets!

There will be a clinic for new/interested officials in Reno on Saturday, October 27 from 9 AM – 12 PM  Please click here for more information

King of the Hill

The next meet on our schedule is the King of the Hill meet, October 19 – 21 in Carson City. Reno Aquatic Club hosts this meet and it is a big fundraiser for our team. There will be several opportunities for you to volunteer and earn service hours. This meet would not be possible without the full support of our parents. Thank you in advance.

Registering for Swim Meets

Before you register your child for a meet, please check with your child’s coach about what events they should do. Several factors go into event selection for meets (examples: is the child ready for a certain event, what do the coaches want their swimmers focusing on in certain meets, how many events they should do, etc.).

If you have any questions on the registration process, please let me know.

Meet Schedule

Here are the rest of the meets for 2018:

RENO has secured a hotel block for State. We have 25 rooms available at the Best Western Plus (1553 N Boulder Highway, Henderson, NV). The rate is $99 plus tax per night. The hotel offers a complimentary breakfast buffet and it is close to the pool.
