Good news! The Reno City Council unanimously approved to take on the operations on a new pool at Moana. At today’s meeting, Council approved plans to go forward with a 35-meter pool but if enough funds are raised, there would be an option to make it a 50-meter pool.
Although today’s decision is a big step forward for this project, there is still a lot of work to be done. The capital campaign to raise funds for construction will be beginning in a couple of months. Sierra Nevada Community Aquatics and the City of Reno will start the formal grant application process with the lead donor. Once the lead donor is on board, hopefully others in the community will step-up and help with the construction cost.
So, it’s not 100% finalized, but after today’s meeting we are as close as we have been in decades to having a new pool in Reno!
A big thank you to Chip Hobson and Mike Ginsburg from SNCA for their hard work on this project over the last decade. Prior to joining RENO, I was a member of the SNCA board for a few years. There were times when it felt like this project was never going to happen, but through their hard work and persistence today was a huge step forward!
Thank you to all who voiced your support of this project. City Council noted the outpouring of messages they received from the community.
I will do my best to keep you updated on the status of this project.
