SwimBC Winter Age Group Championships Review

Congratulations to Meghan, Brooke and Emily, our three Hurricanes swimmers competing at SwimBC Winter Age Group Championships this past weekend! It was a great meet for our team with best times in over 80% of their events. The girls were consistently racing for first in their heats and moving up in the standings in their events.

Meghan had a tremendous meet with 100% best times! She started the meet with a fantastic 200m Freestyle where she beat her best 100m Freestyle time in the first 100m and then took off over four seconds from her previous best 200m Freestyle time! Meghan was also out fast in her 100m Freestyle, breaking her best 50m Freestyle time and then finishing under 1:10 for the first time! Meghan also raced under 3:00 in the 200m Backstroke and overall just had a great meet!

Brooke had some incredible swims, taking off over ten seconds in her 200m Freestyle and eight seconds in her 200m Individual Medley! Her 100m Backstroke was another big drop of five seconds and her 200m Backstroke was a great swim minus a small error using the backstroke wedge for the first time. Brooke had great racing in all of her events and she added three new SwimBC Age Group Championships time standards!

Emily really improved throughout the meet after being out of the water due to being sick leading into the competition. Emily just missed best times in her first two events and then raced to new bests in everything else, including a big seven second drop in the 200m Butterfly! Emily was our only top eight finish of the meet with a very fast 29.32 for 5th place in the 50m Freestyle!

It was a great meet for the girls and it was fun having the competition in Vancouver as we had a few teammates stop by to cheer on our team. The goal for SwimBC Summer Age Group Championships is to get more swimmers qualified and send a bigger team to Chilliwack in June!
