Langley LC Meet Review

23 Hollyburn Hurricanes raced at the Langley Long Course Invitational this past weekend. The meet marked the start of the long course season for our LMR qualified swimmers, as they learn to race in the 50m format. Racing long course is an important skill as swimmers move through the club since meets such as SwimBC Provincial Championships, Canadian Westerns, Canadian Juniors and Canadian Trials are all held in long course format. Racing long course after spring break is always a little tough but our swimmers did a great job after a week of training. The meet gives the swimmers a good starting point to improve on as they race more long course meets through the rest of the spring.

Congratulations to Rebecca, Stella, Yiyang, Alessandra, Declan, Shae, Kiersa, Atria and Marcus who all swam a lot of events for the first time in a long course meet! We had a lot of strong 200m Backstrokes and 200m Freestyles from our young swimmers!

Sidney had incredible swims in the 200m Individual Medley and the 200m Breaststroke! Sidney's times of 2:34.13 in the 200m IM and 2:55.39 in the 200m Breaststroke added two more swims to her event schedule this week at Canadian Western Championships! Olivia also had an amazing swim in her 100m Butterfly, racing to a time of 1:07.18 which also gave her another event at Canadian Western Championships! Josh had a really great 400m Individual Medley, taking off 10 seconds and just missing the time for his Canadian Western Championships with a final time of 5:03.35!

In the 200m Individual Medley, Atria raced to her first 12 year old qualifying time for SwimBC Age Group Championships! Now Atria just needs one more time in any of the events to compete at the meet in June!

There were a number of huge long course time drops from our swimmers. Sidney took off 10 seconds in her 100m Backstroke! Addison dropped 12 seconds in her 200m Backstroke! Keala had new bests by 11 seconds in 200m Backstroke, 17 seconds in 400m Freestyle and 14 seconds in the 200m Breaststroke! Meghan improved by 10 seconds in the 100m Breaststroke and eight seconds in the 400m Freestyle! Rebecca took off nine seconds in the 50m Freestyle, 13 seconds in 50m Backstroke, 17 seconds in 100m Freestyle and 29 seconds in 100m Backstroke! Tessa raced to a 12 second drop in the 100m Backstroke! Esme took off 10 seconds in her 50m Freestyle and 50m Breaststroke, 13 seconds in 100m Backstroke, 18 seconds in 100m Breaststroke and 29 seconds in 50m Butterfly! Emily took off 11 seconds in 200m Backstroke! Tiger took off 10 seconds in his 50m Freestyle and 40 seconds in his 200m Individual Medley! Declan dropped 11 seconds in his 100m Freestyle, 13 seconds in his 50m Backstroke, 19 seconds in 100m Breaststroke and 23 seconds in 100m Backstroke! Shae improved by 10 seconds in the 50m Breaststroke, 14 in the 100m Freestyle and 24 in the 100m Backstroke! Natalie had a 15 second best time in the 200m Individual Medley!

We have five swimmers racing at Canadian Western Championships this weekend in Edmonton! Good luck to Morgan, Quincy, Sidney, Olivia and Jessica! The rest of our LMR qualified swimmers will race at the Jess Deglau Invitational April 27-28. Pre-Competitive and Competitive swimmers will compete at our Hollyburn PASS Meet on May 5.
