Edmonton Keyano Review
Eight Hurricanes traveled to Edmonton this past weekend to compete in the Edmonton Keyano Invitational. It was a great travel meet for our team with everyone racing in multiple finals throughout the weekend! We were focusing on building travel meet skills so swimmers could gain experience managing themselves through multiple races, warm-ups and away from the pool. The team did a great job despite some extra hurdles with some sickness going around, lacking some sleep and entering the meet off of some challenging training. It’s hard to line up perfect conditions for any competition so it is a great experience to work through some challenges and race at a high level! The team did a fantastic job of raising their game in finals throughout the meet. One of our main goals was to learn from races in preliminaries and improve results on their second swims.
Josh had a great meet with big improvements in his 800m Freestyle, 50m Butterfly, 50m Breaststroke and 400m Freestyle! Josh put together a very good 100m Backstroke in finals racing to a time of 1:04.54, closing in on his Westerns and Juniors times!
Lucas had big improvements in his 200m Individual Medley, 50m Breaststroke, 100m Butterfly, 100m Backstroke and 50m Butterfly as he had a really strong meet. His three second drop in the 100m Butterfly qualified him to swim the event at SwimBC Provincial Championships!
Meghan finished the meet very impressively with big wins in both the 200m Freestyle and 100m Freestyle events! Her 200m Freestyle was a best time by over four seconds!
Olivia raced to first in the 100m Butterfly with a really strong second half and placed top three in all of the fly events with speed in her 50m Butterfly and a lot of will power in her 200m Butterfly! Olivia also had a great sprint in the 50m Breaststroke!
Sidney had a really strong 800m Freestyle and did a great job racing her 200m and 400m Individual Medley’s in finals with really strong breaststroke splits in both!
Keala raced really well in finals in her 100m Breaststroke and 100m Freestyle, moving up and racing to best times in both! Keala also had a lot of speed in her 50m Breaststroke and 50m Butterfly!
Emily had some great swims in finals, her 100m Butterfly she followed her race plan really well to move up and her 200m Backstroke was split very well to race to best times!
Natalie had great speed in her 50m races and did a very good job of improving her times in finals!
Natalie, Sidney, Emily and Keala teamed up for two exciting relays, finishing second in the 4x50m Freestyle Relay and third in the 4x50m Medley Relay!
