Glenwood Gives

Greetings from the Glenwood newsroom.  Today we bring you news to inform, news you can use, and maybe even news to amaze!

There is no practice Friday.  Instead, we will hold our first pep rally of the season at 6:30 p.m.  The theme this week is “Community Conquering Cancer Potluck” and our friends from the Glenwood Dive Team will join us.  Please bring a dish to share and consider donating to the Cancer Research Institute.  We will accept donations by cash or check at the potluck, or you can give online here.

For the big meal, label your serving items so that they can be returned to you.  Last names A-M, please bring a main dish to share; N-Z, please contribute two donations of either salad, fruit, bread, dessert, or drinks.

We will give, we will eat, we will cheer, and we will make posters for the…

We kick off the season in the best way possible—with a meet at home.  Swimmers report at 7:45 a.m.  Warm-ups begin at 7:50 a.m.

Please do not park your cars in the main parking lot in front of the pool.  We want to be great hosts, so let’s leave this area open for our guests from River Falls.

As always, there will be tasty egg sandwiches and warm coffee, heartfelt cheers and fast races.  But here’s something new!  Bring rafts, floaties, and beach balls, kids!  At 8:10 a.m., we are having a pool party to celebrate the end of the school year.  We have invited River Falls to join us before they begin their warm-ups.

The meet starts at 9 a.m.  Accuweather forecast pegs it mostly sunny but chilly.  Please consider bringing extra towels and cozy clothing for your swimmers, especially the little ones, to help keep them warm between races.

Do you play an instrument?  Do you have a singing voice that holds up outside of the shower?  Does the sight of our nation’s flag stirring gently in the breeze at evening swim meets inspire you to belt out some patriotic lyrics?

Have you got talent?

If so, consider stepping up to perform The Star Spangled Banner at one of our three home B meets.  Give me a holler if you’re interested.

Here are some closing thoughts for you, Glenwood.

As of last Thursday, the Glenwood Big Team was 248 swimmers strong!  No typo there, folks.

Not part of the above total is the 37 young swimmers signed up for pre-team. We also have 48 swimming in our 8&under group this summer.  The size of those two groups combined signals great health for the team for many years to come.

But equally impressive is that we also have 48 teens swimming in the 15-18 age group.  There’s a lot of competition for the time and attention of most high schoolers; especially our high-flying Tigers.  It’s a testament to our team spirit, supportive community, and great coaches that so many choose to keep swimming for Glenwood. Keep up the good work!

With that, we bid you goodnight.  See you at the pool!
