Kamloops Review

14 Hurricanes traveled to Kamloops last weekend to compete in the TRU Wolfpack Invitational. It is a great meet that is set up well for our younger swimmers who can race a lot of long course events and older swimmers to compete against different competition in a strong heats and finals format. You could tell that a lot of the younger swimmers had been to the meet before, they knew their way around and really participated well, cheering on their older teammates and always waiting eagerly for their next swim. For our older swimmers it was their last competition before Provincial Championships. There was a lot of really solid racing for where we are at in our training and a great sign for great results in the next month.

It was a really strong meet for Quincy with an outstanding 400m Freestyle that was well paced to start things off on the Friday morning. A new best time in the 400m Individual Medley and very close to her bests in her other freestyle events.

Saige set new best times in all of her events and really got into the racing throughout the weekend. She was determined to get a second swim in the 50m Breaststroke and just missed finals with a fantastic time breaking 50 seconds on her last swim of the meet!

Addison did a tremendous job racing in her backstroke and freestyle events, focusing on keeping her stroke long and powerful leading to big drops in her 50m Backstroke, 100m Backstroke and 100m Freestyle!

Stella really improved her freestyle events going out with a lot of speed in both her 100m Freestyle and 200m Freestyle! She was also great racing her 100m Breaststroke and 100m Backstroke holding her speed more to finish with best times!

Tessa had a fantastic meet, racing under her best time in all of her events! Tessa has been focusing on improving her breaststroke length and it resulted in huge time drops and qualifying for finals in her breaststroke events!

Olivia broke three minutes in her 200m Breaststroke with a very well executed race plan! She also had a great day racing on Sunday with impressive 200m Freestyle and 100m Butterfly swims!

Esme swam really well in her 100m Breaststroke, 100m Backstroke and 200m Freestyle! She has an incredible kick throughout her entire races that we want to see from all of our swimmers!

Brooke made finals in half of her events as an 11 year old in the 11-12 age group! Her butterfly speed was fantastic and she was very aggressive racing in her 100m events!

Emily had a lot of speed to start every race and really put together a great 100m Butterfly in finals, racing to her second time standard for SwimBC Provincial Championships!

Declan had great second halves in his events racing under his best times and moving up in the rankings. Declan also broke 40 seconds in his 50m Freestyle!

Shae had an outstanding meet, swimming to big improvements in her 100m Breaststroke, 200m Individual Medley and 200m Freestyle! She was very good picking up her stroke rate in the long course format for strong finishes.

Lucas was very busy, swimming heats and finals in all of his events! He had big drops in his butterfly events and was close to setting best times in all of his events!

Jessica had the 100m Breaststroke swim that she has been waiting for, going 1:15.44, her first qualifying time for next year's Canadian Olympic Trials! She had a lot of really good swims but her breakthrough in the 100m Butterfly was very impressive!

Sarah was also really strong, making it to finals in the 50m and 100m Breaststroke events and did a great job of improving her times in her second swims! She also raced under three minutes in the 200m Freestyle!

We had fantastic relay results at the meet, with swimmers really stepping up at the end of the finals each day to race with their teammates. In the 15&over girls our team of Jessica, Olivia, Emily and Quincy touched in second place in the 4x50m Freestyle Relay! The same girls raced to third place in the 4x50m Medley Relay! Our 11-12 year old girls relay team of Sarah, Addison, Tessa and Brooke finished 4th overall in the 4x50m Freestyle Relay! Our team of Sarah, Tessa, Brooke and Saige had a great 4x50m Medley Relay!
