Greetings from the Glenwood newsroom.  Busy, busy, busy and hot, hot, hot sums up this, the final week, of Glenwood summer swimming.  Included in this email are reminders for our annual t-shirt decorating day, directions for purchasing tickets to the team’s season-ending awards banquet, and more.  Please read carefully!

This event sells itself.  Kids and adults alike are invited to join us for a night of dining, dancing, awards, and more.  Here are the details:

When:  Tuesday, July 23 from 6 to 10 p.m.

Who:    Swimmers and their immediate family, which means parents and siblings.  Sorry, we cannot accommodate any extended family or friends because of space limitations at our venue.  Children ages 12 and under must be accompanied by a parent or another adult designated as your proxy.

Where:  Knights of Columbus, 9707 Rosensteel Ave, Silver Spring.

What:  A celebration of the season and our swimmers' hard work.  Expect an evening of dining, dancing and award-giving.  Food will be served promptly at 6 p.m. so we can get the awards ceremony underway.  Dancing with a DJ will follow.  Dinner and non-alcoholic drinks are included in the ticket price; cash bar for beer and wine.  Please note, we cannot accommodate special food orders.

How:  The ticket price is $16 per person (children 3 and under are free) and tickets are available only through advance purchase, first come, first serve.  No tickets will be available at the door!  The deadline for purchasing tickets is Sunday, July 21, at 9 a.m.  You must buy your tickets by this date and time; payment is required to attend any part of the banquet.  Purchase tickets for your family only, please.  If you are chaperoning another swimmer, their ticket must be bought through their family account.

Tickets can be purchased only online via credit card.  Sign into your account and click here.  Please email Darcia Bowman or Traci Vagnucci with questions.

Did your child have a great swim season?  Were you wowed by the dedication and skill of our coaches as they led the Tigers through an action-packed season of morning and afternoon practices, twice-weekly meets, a fast-paced relay carnival, and all those great Friday pep rallies?  If so, we invite you to join us in showing our appreciation.

Team treasurer Traci Vagnucci is collecting money for coaches’ gifts this week. You can write a check or donate cash. Checks should be made payable to Glenwood.  You can leave your contribution in the Vagnucci family folder outside the manager’s office.  Typically, we collect enough money to give all our coaches a very nice cash bonus—a greatly appreciated gift from the parents.  The deadline for gift contributions is Monday, July 22.

Email Traci Vagnucci with any questions.

Come join the Glenwood tradition of decorating green t-shirts using bleach sticks on the Wednesday before the big meet.  If your child cannot attend the morning decorating session, please watch for upcoming details about a Thursday afternoon opportunity to participate and considering volunteering to help.

Don't wait until the last minute.  NOW is the time to get your t-shirt!

Shirts must be ALL -COTTON and PRE -WASHED!  Trust us, cotton is best—cotton-polyester blends don’t work well with the bleach!

  • Write your child's name on the label with a Sharpie before the event.
  • Have your child wear old clothes – bleach can stain.
  • Don't forget your cardboard!  We will have some cardboard on hand, but not nearly enough for all swimmers.

WHEN:  Wednesday, July 17 (or July 18th from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. if your child can't make the morning edition).

SCHEDULE:  Except for 13-18s, kids will design their shirts 30 minutes before practice, and pick them up after practice. 13-18s will design immediately after practice.  Once bleached, the tees will need to "set" for about an hour.

8:15 am:  11-12s

9:00 am:  13-18s

9:10 am:  9-10s *

9:45 am:  8 & unders *

* Parents of 9-10s, 8&unders, please plan to stay and help your child with the design and rinsing of the shirt!!!

WHERE:  Tables behind the snack bar, on the back deck.

WHAT TO BRING: an all-cotton, pre-washed GREEN t-shirt, cami, tank, or polo (only one per swimmer) and a piece of thick, corrugated cardboard about 18 inches square, to slip inside the shirt.  Also, parents, please have your children plan to decorate just one side of their tee with a single design, and remind them that a little bleach gel goes a long way.  If your swimmer has a more involved design in mind, please consider purchasing a bleach stick they can bring with them to help us stretch our supply.

Come out and cheer on our swimmers at the final B meet of the summer Wednesday evening, when our friends from Kenmont pool pay us a visit.

In the morning, swimmers can fuel up one last time on our weekly $1 breakfast, decorate their champs t-shirts, and get a good workout in at practice.

Swimmers should report back to the pool at 5 p.m., wearing their (washed) division champs tees to show their spirit.  The meet officially begins at 6 p.m., but will be preceded at 5:50 by a final race for our 2019 pre-team.

Swim Fast, Tiny Tigers!

That’s all the news for now, Glenwood Parents.  We’ll touch base with you later in the week about Division D standings and must-know stuff about the big championship meet at River Falls, which takes place on what is shaping up to be an absolute scorcher of a Saturday morning!

Stay cool in the pool, Tigers!
