Park Paseo vs. Northwood Pointe and Stonegate – 7/20/19
The Park Paseo Northstars closed out the 2019 regular season with a tri-meet against the Northwood Pointe Flash and Stonegate Seahawks. Sydney Lin broke another record this week, swimming the girls 15-18 breaststroke in 33.12 seconds, taking almost a full second off the previous record set in 1998.
The Northstars finished the season with 42 swimmers qualified for the championship meet in 148 total races, including 22 swimmers that qualified in every event. This week, Jake Jacoby, Isaac Lee, and Parsa Tamadon each qualified in two new events, while Josh Chao, Hannah Miller, and Winter Niu added one new time each.
Sydney Lin and Andrew Teh were undefeated in 2019, while Nyah Lin and Noah Villanueva each placed first in every race but one.
This week, Everett Chen, Peyton Cheng, Aditi Gupta, Deron Hsia, Jalen Hsia, and Parsa Tamadon placed in the top 3 and qualified for champs in all of their races. Adrian Bekker, Josh Chao, Sarah Chao, Ethan Chen, Brynna Hsia, Karlisha Yu, and Michelle Zhang all had at least one first-place finish.
The Northstars continued to improve this week, with swimmers dropping time in 107 events. Katie Damko had the biggest improvement, taking off 39.81 seconds in the girls 11-12 individual medley. Other swimmers with double-digit improvements were Emir Uzun (-19.91 boys 11-12 IM), Sophie Trinh (-19.56 girls 9-10 IM), Anh Truong (-15.42 girls 11-12 butterfly), Anna Cho (-14.82 girls 11-12 IM), and Julia Kim (-11.65 girls 9-10 backstroke).
Nine swimmers improved in all three of their events this weekend, including Ethan Chen, Everett Chen, Anna Cho, Jackie Edney, Aditi Gupta, Luukas Houttu, Isla Kim, Nyah Lin, and Hanna Muncy.
The 22 swimmers with two time improvements were Sarah Chao, Peyton Cheng, Danny Constandse, Katie Damko, Andrew Do, Rachel Gima, Deron Hsia, Evie Kao, Julia Kim, Soham Kulkarni, Isaac Lee, Kevin Li, Sydney Lin, Hannah Miller, Lindsay Tarlton, Sophie Trinh, Anh Truong, Kenan Uzun, Zichen Xiang, Chaewon Yoon, Zhongwen Zhang, and Lucas Zhao.
There were 36 swimmers that improved in one event, including Adrian Bekker, Anika Bhardwaj, Josh Chao, Trevor Cheng, Audrey Do, Vicki Edney, Joshua Gima, RJ Hogan, Erika Houttu, Brynna Hsia, Jalen Hsia, Jake Jacoby, Aaron Josenhans, Ava Josenhans, Everett Kao, Nora Kao, Ian Lee, Andrew Ma, Natalie Miller, Travis Miller, Emily Nauli, Om Panday, Simran Patel, Adithi Ravikumar, Izumi Renshus, Kristoffer Renshus, Haylee Trinh, Emir Uzun, Angelina Van Velden, Noah Villanueva, Abishek Vinujudson, Sophia Wu, Russell Yoo, Karlisha Yu, Michelle Zhang, and Chloe Zhao.
Although it was the last meet of the year, three Northstars swam some or all of their races for the first time, including Brody Bautista, Ryan Damko, and Alex Heller. Also swimming for the Northstars and helping the team on Saturday were Azra Buvan, Alex Chin, Isaac Kao, Micah Kim, Jane Kim, Angela Li, Pak Fung, Matthew Ma, Cailen Muncy, Maanav Parajuli, Satyar Safae, Varsha Sathish Kumar, Devynn Slater, Khanh Truong, Tanya Vinujudson, George Xiang, and Yeowon Yoon.
