26th Pentathlon in-the-Books!

26th Annual Pentathlon 2019, in-the-Books!

Saturday, September 14, 178 Stingrays from all our practice sites met at the Cherokee County Aquatic Center for the 26th Annual Stingrays Pentathlon. One hundred seventy-eight is the sum of 46 Senior level swimmers (Futures, Nationals, Seniors), 21 Youth level, 61 Age Group level, 8 Middle School LAPS, and 42 Elementary LAPS swimmers. This is a really big turn out from last year. Thank you, coaches, (from every site) and parents for your involvement and instant helpfulness in the meet as we raced through a full and fun-filled schedule of: early arrival, dryland Warm Up To Swim groups, Big Bro/Sis—Little Bro/Sis Match Ups, in the pool warm ups, team meeting and a cheer that rocked the natatorium! First event: the 10 & Under 25 Freestyle with fearless LAPS swimmers Zoe M., Brook C. and Julie R. leading the way with the first splashes!

The Stingrays Pentathlon is our first meet of the short course yards season (SCY), a Stingrays tradition of friendship and team-building, new-swimmer introduction to a meet, and a first look at our race readiness in a GA/USA sanctioned meet. Yes, it is a real swim meet. We saw many best times and some new state cuts. Events are 50’s and 100’s (25’s for the 10 & Unders) in all the strokes including the Individual Medley event—Freestyle, Backstroke, Breast Stroke, Butterfly, Individual Medley; the five, our Pentathlon! Oh, and, at the end of the meet, we have more fun with yet more swimming in the outdoor Oasis water park.

We want to give a special shout out to the Senior and Youth level swimmers who participated as Big Sisters and Brothers to our younger swimmers—our “Bigs.” For some of our younger swimmers it was their first meet. You  “Bigs” made it happen for the younger swimmers—with your welcoming posters and attention to their events. Did you see some of the “Bigs and Littles” posters? One of our LAPS swimmers was dressed out in a giant illuminated Olympic gold medal with his name and team on it. Did you see that guy? That’s the spirit!

Finally, we cannot do a meet like the Pentathlon without parent volunteers. Volunteerism is huge, huge Stingrays tradition! Moms and Dads, you stepped up to make it happen: to officiate, to time, to run results, announce behind the mic, provide hospitality and concessions, and organize yourselves into an army of helpfulness. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! And we want you to sign up again for our next hosted meet, the Stingrays Red & Blue.
