Senior Group Dryland Schedule for Winter/Spring 2019-2020

Senior Group Winter Dryland Training and Slight Schedule Change:

We are nearing winter and I’d like to put forth a few recommendations with winter temperature and dryland training.

I’ve done outdoor dryland training year round for multiple years without issue.  You need to dress appropriately for the elements and there are certain things you can’t wear to do the prescribed workouts.

Parkas cannot be used during dryland.  Yes, they are warm, but you lose all mobility and they are a safety concern as well when doing movement.

Hoods need to be avoided as they impair vision as well as hearing.  When we are doing weights, throwing medballs, etc. athletes need to be aware of their surroundings with peripheral vision.

Things I do suggest:

  • Get athletic cold gear compression base layers. Under Armour makes a pretty good one.  Leggings are the most important and can make a pair of sweatpants really warm if worn under.  The tops are great as well and provide the necessary mobility.
  • Get a pair of thick socks or double layer your socks.  Waterproof shoes are a great addition or shoes that have less mesh.  We get used to having very breathable tennis shoes here in Florida since it is so hot, in the winter that mesh isn’t as welcome.
  • Wear a beanie type hat or ear warmers.  Both will help you retain heat.
  • You may want a pair of running style gloves.  You wont be able to use them all the time, but they can certainly help between sets or when doing work that allow you to wear them.

We will be emailing out a few custom Loggerhead workout tops through CP&S in the next week or two.  Very cool stuff!  We have a crew neck ¼ zip and a long sleeve shirt along with some thick sweat pants.

Secondly – Dryland Training

Coach Grif is about to welcome a new member to the family in the next few weeks here.  We have had to make some slight changes to the schedule to accommodate the family a bit.  The only big change is one day for Senior Sectional has an extra morning dryland… (this is the best we could do on scheduling, sorry for the early time).
