Langley SC Meet Review

Langley is always an important meet in our swimmer’s development through the fall season. Our younger LMR qualified swimmers get a chance to swim some of the 200m events for the first time this year and some swimmers get their first try at the 400m Freestyle. Our older swimmers race a lot of meters over the two days with some of the most experienced swimmers racing up to 16 times between heats and finals with most of the events either 200m or 400m in distance! It’s a great time for the swimmers to see what they can do under a lot of work that will give them confidence when we get to our more performance based meets in December.

A big group of swimmers is starting to think about time standards for the SwimBC Age Group Championships. 12&under Girls and 13&under Boys are eligible for the meet and must make the 200m Individual Medley time for their age group and any other event time standard to fully qualify for the meet. Atria did a tremendous job in her 200m Individual Medley racing to a time of 2:52.82 to become fully qualified for the meet after getting the 100m Butterfly time at the last swim meet. Esme raced to her first time standard in 100m Breaststroke and now will be aiming for the 200m Individual Medley at her upcoming competitions. So many swimmers narrowed the gap to qualifying for the meet, it will be very exciting to see everyone race in December and January to see how many we can join Meghan and Atria at SwimBC Age Group Championships!

Congratulations to the swimmers who raced events for the first time! Tessa did a great job stepping up to race the 200m Butterfly which is always a scary first! Declan and Marcus both raced the 400m Freestyle for the first time! Chloe and Saige both raced to their first times in the 200m Breaststroke and 200m Backstroke! Atria also competed in her first 200m Breaststroke! Becca and Shae had their first official times short course in the 200m Breaststroke and 200m Backstroke!

There were a lot of impressive best times in the 200m and 400m events as well. Addison had an outstanding 200m Freestyle to knock off 12 seconds from her previous best! Meghan bettered her time by 7 seconds in the 400m Freestyle! Stella took off over 30 seconds in her 200m Backstrokes! Tessa improved her 400m Freestyle by 13 seconds! Esme dropped 31 seconds in her 200m Backstroke and 12 seconds in her 200m Individual Medley! Brooke raced to her best by over 12 seconds in the 200m Backstroke! Emily took off 17 seconds in the 400m Freestyle and 13 seconds in her 400m Individual Medley! Declan had an incredible 200m Backstroke knocking off 15 seconds! Chloe improved her 200m Individual Medley time by over 7 seconds! Sarah had a fabulous 200m Backstroke dropping 29 seconds from her previous best! Marcus improved his 200m Freestyle by 11 seconds and 200m Backstroke by 21 seconds! Great swimming over all with the swimmers following their races plans really well and finishing their races with a lot of speed!

Our Pursuit swimmers who have been working through some intense training really stepped up with a ton of tough racing through the weekend. The swimmers have done more work in training than every before and were still racing to best times in tough events. Quincy was off the blocks 16 times through the weekend and raced to new best times in the 400m Freestyle, 200m Breaststroke, 100m Butterfly, 400m Individual Medley and 200m Butterfly, setting new club records in the 400m and Butterfly events! Josh swam 15 events over the two day meet and still managed to set new best times in the 400m Freestyle, 200m Breaststroke, 100m Freestyle, 400m Individual Medley, 200m Butterfly, 200m Backstroke and 50m Backstroke! Josh broke 5 minutes for the first time in the 400m Individual Medley and 30 seconds for the first time in the 50m Backstroke! Lucas also had a full schedule with 12 swims on the weekend. Lucas’s love for butterfly training led him to setting new bests in the 200m Breaststroke, 100m Butterfly and 200m Butterfly! Olivia had a tough schedule coming off of a hamstring injury and still managed to do amazing underwater dolphin kicks off every wall throughout the meet. She raced to a best time in her top event, the 100m Butterfly which needs a lot of power from her legs! Emily has done a ton of work this year training in the Pursuit group and it paid off throughout the meet showing a great ability to hold her speed. Emily raced to best times in all of her 200m and 400m events, narrowly missing the SwimBC Provincial Championships time in her new favorite event, the 200m Butterfly! Meghan had a really great meet, our only 12&under swimmer to qualify for finals and setting new bests in the 400m Freestyle and 200m Individual Medley!

This was a great training meet for our team. We will continue to focus on racing skills before we have our two big team meets in the fall – our Hollyburn Swim Meet November 30-December 1 and the Christmas Cracker Meet in Victoria December 6-8.
