We had a busy weekend with 56 Hurricanes swimmers competing at our own Hollyburn Invitational! The pool was packed with swimmers and parents from eight teams creating an exciting atmosphere for our team to step up and race! ​

16 swimmers competed in their first official swim meet! Great work by Baran, Bardia, Calais, Nelli, Nina, Roja, Liam, Beans, Harris, Rosemilor, Aiden, Salabowa, Yunhan, Kayan, Vian and Evan! 

One of our main events is always the 200m Individual Medley, our swimmers in Competitive and Regional race the event to qualify for Lower Mainland Meets and it is one of the main qualifying standards for SwimBC Age Group Championships. Rebecca and Stella both had incredible 200m IM's to get their first 10 year old qualifying time for SwimBC Age Group Championships on the weekend! Brooke raced to her 12 year old SwimBC Age Group Championships time standard as well! Now all three girls just need any other time standard to fully qualify for the meet. We also had Phillipa swim a great 200m IM dropping 20 seconds to race just under the 4 minute Lower Mainland Meet qualifying standard! Emma barely missed with a time of 4:00.87 after taking off an impressive 16 seconds from her time two weeks before! Claire had a great 200m IM racing to a time of 3:12, a huge improvement on her old best time! Saige dropped 24 seconds from her previous best 200m IM time! Ally took off seven seconds in her 200m IM, Addison beat her time by six seconds, Sarah bettered her time by four seconds, Declan touched the wall five seconds under his best time, Marcus improved by five seconds, Meghan broke 2:50 for the first time and Shae dropped nine seconds to narrowly miss her SwimBC Age Group Championship time standard.

We had countless impressive swims throughout the weekend, from our youngest swimmers racing 25m events for the first time to our most experienced swimmers improving times in their top events. Our meet is such a fun event to see the entire team on deck working together and cheering each other on! Thanks to all the parents and swimmers who volunteered their time over the weekend to make it all happen! It is a big deal for our team to run a swim meet and we can't do it without having a large number of people step up to help out!

Next up for our team is big meets in Victoria (Christmas Cracker) and Toronto (Ontario Juniors) the next two weekends for qualified swimmers. In January LMR qualified swimmers will race at the CDSC Invitational January 17-19 and all 12&under swimmers will be able to take part in the Chena Invitational in North Vancouver January 25.
