Xmas Cracker Recap

17 Hollyburn Swimmers competed at the Xmas Cracker Invitational this past weekend in Victoria. The team did a fantastic job racing throughout the meet. It was the first team travel meet of the season for our team and our youngest swimmers were great racing to best times at a new pool with over 750 swimmers competing at the meet! It is a new experience racing in a facility like the Commonwealth Pool and against so many swimmers that half the teams race preliminaries in the other end of the pool. We did a great job in preliminaries, with our swimmers often taking control of their race and winning their heat. Overall we had really solid swimming at night with Quincy, Josh, Olivia, Lucas and Natalie racing individual events in finals with everyone stepping up for improvements their second time off the blocks. Everyone raced on relays at night and everyone raced to best times on their relays! Exactly the speed we want them to feel in finals and stepping up to race for their teammates!

Josh had a fantastic meet, racing to finals in the 200m Freestyle, 200m Backstroke, 100m Freestyle, 50m Freestyle and 100m Backstroke! He dropped down to a 54.91 in his 100m Freestyle and 24.93 in his 50m Freestyle! He also had a great 1500m Freestyle finishing 7th overall with a team record of 17:15.10!

Olivia was so impressive in her 100m Breaststroke and 200m Butterfly on Saturday! She broke 2:30 in the 200m Butterfly for the first time with great speed taking the race out! She also broke 1:20 for the first time in the 100m Breaststroke with powerful pullouts and breakouts, exactly what we train to do!

Brooke had an incredible 200m Backstroke, dropping 16 seconds to race well under her SwimBC Age Group Championships time standard to fully qualify as a 12 year old for the meet! She was great in all of her backstroke swims, really working her stroke rate and accelerating through each length! She also completed her first 200m Butterfly with a great time!

Stella raced to best times in all but one of her swims and had some incredible efforts in the 100m Breaststroke, 200m Breaststroke and 200m Backstroke to race to new SwimBC Age Group Championships time standards in all three of the events! Stella is now fully qualified for the meet as a 10&under swimmer in February!

Shae’s 200m Backstroke was really incredible, she took off 18 seconds and raced under the SwimBC Age Group Championships time standard! It was her first time standard and she is within two seconds of her 200m Individual Medley time to get fully qualified! She also broke 1:30 for the first time in 100m Freestyle!

Lucas started the meet with a very fast 50m Butterfly and improved his time in all the butterfly events! He raced in finals in both the 100m Butterfly and 100m Backstroke, taking more time off in his finals swims!

Natalie got better throughout the meet, racing in finals in both the 100m Butterfly and 50m Freestyle on the last day! She really got her stroke rate going on the second half of each length and started to feel her speed again!

Meghan raced to a top 16 finish in her 100m Butterfly dropping four seconds off her best time! She also set new bests in the 400m Freestyle, 400m Individual Medley and 200m Freestyle with one of the most challenging event schedules on our team!

Atria’s fly events were great, she was super fast in her 50m Butterfly, raced to a top 16 finish in her 100m Butterfly and swam her first ever 200m Butterfly with a really strong swim! Her 200m Butterfly was her third SwimBC Age Group Championships time standard! She also had big drops in all of her freestyle events!

Esme has some of our best dives always going far through the air and getting out with speed. She was on it in her freestyle events, racing to best times in her 200m, 100m and 50m Freestyle events!

Alessandra had an amazing meet, racing well under her best time in all of her events! She broke 40 in the 50m Butterfly, 1:30 in the 100m Backstroke and took off over five seconds in her 200m Freestyle, 200m Individual Medley and 100m Butterfly!

Marcus had a big drop in his 50m Breaststroke, his 100m Freeestyle and saved his very best swim for his last event the 200m Breaststroke where he split the race really well and dropped six seconds to move closer to his first 11&under SwimBC Age Group Championships time standard!

Claire had a great day of racing, swimming to best times in all four of her events, taking off 12 seconds with a fast 100m Backstroke and broke 40 seconds for the first time in the 50m Freestyle!

Declan was the best at racing on relays! He stepped up and went 35 seconds for his 50m Freestyle split in both the relays he raced on! He also had great drops in the 100m Backstroke and 100m Freestyle dropping four seconds in each event!

Tessa showed fantastic speed throughout the meet, always getting off the blocks quickly and following through with a fast breakout! Her most impressive finishes were dropping two seconds in her 50m Freestyle, three seconds in her 100m Breaststroke and seven seconds in her 100m Freestyle!

Emily showed great resiliency throughout the meet, battling a bad sickness and still showing speed when she got off the blocks! Emily dropped two seconds off her 50m Butterfly time to start the meet and bettered her 50m Freestyle time after a full day of being sick.

Quincy had a strong meet as she tunes up for the Ontario Junior International Meet in Toronto this next weekend. She raced to big drops in her longer events, the 400m Freestyle and 800m Freestyle where she set team records of 4:20.07 and 9:13.87! She also broke her best 100m Freestyle with a new team record of 57.77!
