Quincy competed at the Ontario Junior International Meet this past weekend and put in a really strong showing against very fast age group competition. The meet includes the fastest 18&under swimmers from across Canada as well as teams from Great Britain, Japan and the United States. It was amazing to watch the fast swimming as many 15-17 and 13-14 Canadian Records were broken. 13 year old Summer McIntosh went 2:10 in the 200m Fly, 4:38 in the 400m IM and 8:27 in the 800m Freestyle. More 18&under girls went 59 in 100m Back, 24 in the 50m Free, and Quincy’s roommate Ashley McMillan won the 200m IM with a 2:11! 18 & under boys went 1:43 in the 200m Free, 4:09 in the 400m IM, 51 in the 100m Fly, 3:48 in the 400m Free, 46 in the 100m Free and 1:51 in the 200m Back just to name a few of the amazing results. Quincy really showed that she belonged at this level, racing to a best time by two seconds in the 200m Freestyle to just miss a second swim on the first day of the meet. Quincy then had a fantastic 400m Freestyle, racing to 11th overall, qualifying for the B Final and just missing the A Final by .05. She followed that up with a best 50m Freestyle that put her in 18th position for a B Final as well. She was just over her best in the 100m Freestyle and 100m Butterfly but it was such a good experience for her to be put in a position to race against fast Junior swimmers where you need to be at your very best to have a chance to get through to second swims. A great showing to give confidence for Olympic Trials in April.
