No Practice New Year's Day & Other Quick Updates

Hi All,

Let me take this opportunity to wish the entire swamily a very happy and healthy 2020! With each new year, we are given more opportunities to grow as individuals, family members and teammates. May we have the wisdom to recognize those opportunities and the courage and strength to take advantage of them in 2020. Some quick housekeeping...

We WILL NOT hold practices tomorrow. This is a random act of rest.  The swimmers have been working extremely hard. I am sure many will stay up to at least midnight. I would prefer a day of rest so no one gets too run down. We are hitting it pretty darn hard over the rest of the break. Enjoy the holiday and the extra opportunity to rest.

As mentioned, we are working hard. That said, we saw a lot of strong efforts at Saturday’s Pentathlon event held here at BSAC. Thanks for all the officials, timers and set up crew who made the event possible. This was an AAU meet that was approved by Florida Swimming. That means if your child is dual enrolled (both AAU and USAS) the times will count in the USAS SWIMS database. Meets like this are a fun, quick and inexpensive way to compete. Two to three hours on a Saturday morning is much easier on our families than a two or three day marathon meet. Look for more of these events in the future.

We will hold a start & turn clinic next Saturday. More information and sign ups can be found by clicking this link:

Starts & turns can make or break a race. Understanding some of the finer points is important to have real sustained success. These clinics are a great way to slow down and get a better understanding of how to perform higher level skills. We hope to see you there!

We have over forty swimmers competing at the upcoming SPA meet coming up on the 11th of January. This is a one day long course meet. We are attending this meet for a variety of reasons. First, this is a long course meet. We are swimming sessions long course over the break so we are looking forward to some good races in that course. More importantly, we want to get our younger swimmers use to swimming long course races in an Olympic year; especially during the short course season. Hopefully, they will need to qualify for the Olympic Trials one day themselves. This will help give them that experience. It will also go a long way in molding expectations. Dream big...and act in accordance with your aspirations. Second, this is a one day meet. We firmly believe that swim meets do not have to take over entire weekends.More meets like this, both home and away, will be a benefit to all of our families long term. Lastly, this is a fundraiser meet. The monies we give the host team, minus the USA Swimming fees, will be refunded to our team.  This is a soft fundraiser as no one is doing anything different than they would normally do.

Travel Meet

We have our fun travel meet fast approaching. Currently, we have thirty or so swimmers attending. The deadline is the 2nd of January. Please sign up at your earliest convenience if you plan to attend. This is more of a social meet than a performance one. We plan to have fun and get to know each other a little better at the beach and beyond. If you are on the fence about going, talk to families who went to the Caymans, New Orleans or Savannah. Periodically, you need to step back as a group and just have fun. We pick these trips to follow a period of intense training to build on the bonds created working hard together at the beginning of the season. It’s a really good time for the swimmers and the parents. We hope you can come this year.

That’s it for now. Have a safe and happy New Year’s Eve!

See you at the pool - Rich
