CDSC Meet Review

The new year started off with a strong training meet for our team at the CDSC Invitational this past weekend. The meet was focused on swimmers getting back into racing after the Christmas break with events over three days. Our winter session is off to a great start with some really big break throughs for a lot of our swimmers at a meet where we were looking for racing skills and efforts to get back into it!

Rebecca had a great 200m Backstroke, racing to a time of 3:12.57 to easily get her second qualifying event for SwimBC Age Group Championships! She had a fantastic meet overall with all best times and narrowly missed adding more time standards!

Marcus also raced to best times in every event and made his first two SwimBC Age Group Championships time standards! He qualified in the 100m Breaststroke with a time of 1:35.10 which tied our team record set in 2008! He also reached the time with a big drop in the 200m Backstroke!

Alessandra had a tremendous meet, racing to best times in every event with big drops in all of her freestyle and backstroke events. She has been really focused in training and it carried over to her results at the meet!

Phillipa raced at her first LMR swim meet and did a great job racing her first 200m Freestyle and 200m Backstroke which included all legal turns in her backstroke!

Our 4x50m Mixed Medley Relay teams were so fast on Friday night! Our 12&under team of Declan, Marcus, Alessandra and Esme all raced way under their best times! Our 15&over team of Josh, Olivia, Lucas and Quincy raced to first place and set a new meet record!

A few more bright spots on top of all the hard work our swimmers put in throughout the weekend….
Quincy put together a very nice 200m IM, setting a new club record with a time of 2:26.01! Claire swam a really strong 200m IM and had an amazing 200m Butterfly where she took off 11 seconds! Josh had a solid meet and broke through with best times in some of his best events (400m IM, 200m Back, 100m Fly) as he improved throughout the meet. Addison did a great job in the 50m Backstroke with fast arms dropping a lot of time! Meghan had a lot of speed in her sprint events highlighted by her big drop in the 50m Backstroke! Stella keeps making big improvements and was really impressive in her 200m Freestyle! Tessa also had a great 200m Freestyle and had some great breaststroke over the weekend! Olivia had great walls throughout the weekend and was especially strong in her sprint events! Esme had a lot of great swims including great splitting in her 200m Freestyle and a lot of speed in her 50m Backstroke! Brooke put in a really good effort after coming back at the tail end of the sickness that is going around. Emily broke her best time in the 800m Freestyle by over 30 seconds! Tiger broke three minutes in the 200m Backstroke for the first time! Declan had a lot of speed in his backstroke events and keeps dropping time in his 200m IM! Shae really improved her 100m Fly and took off time in all her freestyle events! Lucas had a fantastic 100m Breaststroke, just missing the Provincial time while taking off three seconds! Natalie was very good in her freestyle events just missing the Provincial time in the 100m Freestyle! Sarah had a great 200m Backstroke, breaking three minutes and just missing the Age Group time!

Our swimmers have a busy winter session, with upcoming meets every weekend the next six weeks. Our young swimmers will compete at the Chena Meet this weekend and then focus on our Development Meet on March 1st. SwimBC Age Group Championships will take place February 21-23 and SwimBC Provincial Championships are March 5-8.
