Age Group Championships Recap

One of our main goals this season was to boost our numbers at SwimBC Age Group Championships. Our swimmers did an amazing job rising to the occasion with seven first time qualifiers joining Brooke, our Age Group Champs veteran, to bring our total to eight swimmers racing at the competition, by far our biggest team to take part in the top provincial meet for 12&under girls and 13&under boys!

Over the past few weeks our team has raced a lot to get everyone qualified, which was very exciting but also made it difficult to get off the blocks and continue to take off big chunks of time. Overall the swimmers did a great job of racing with a majority of their swims resulting in best times throughout the meet. It is really difficult to enter a meet freshly qualified, get off the blocks and really improve after you have just invested so much effort and emotion to get to the meet in the first place. We’re very proud of everyone for their performances and the experience will make everything that much easier the next time around.

Claire had a great meet, breaking three minutes in her 200m Backstroke, 2:50 in the 200m Freestyle and attacking her 50m Freestyle to finish with a 33 for the first time!

Rebecca had great speed in her fly leading to a big drop in her 200m Individual Medley! She also bettered her time in the 200m Freestyle with great reach on her stroke!

Stella had fantastic backstroke, setting new team records in the 100m and 200m Backstroke events! She also broke 1:40 in the 100m Breaststroke and was really aggressive for a big drop in her 50m Freestyle!

Esme really took off in her breaststroke events, breaking 1:40 in the 100m Breaststroke and 3:40 in the 200m Breaststroke! She also did a great job in the sprint freestyle events!

Brooke had really good clean swimming speed through the middle of each length and put in an impressive 200m Freestyle best time!

Shae raced a lot of fast 50m Freestyles between relays and individual events! She also raced under the qualifying time in the 100m Breaststroke, broke three minutes in the 200m Freestyle and 3:20 in the 200m Individual Medley!

Atria was really great off the blocks and with early speed in all of her races with impressive finishes in both the 200m Individual Medley and 100m Freestyle!

Marcus was really solid in his events and continued his fantastic push offs which are consistently around 6-7 meters off every wall!

Our relays were outstanding at the meet with everyone racing to best times and showing so much spirit racing for their teammates. Our Girls 10&under Medley Relay sprinted to sixth place with fantastic swims from Stella, Esme, Rebecca and Shae! The same girls also raced to seventh place with fast freestyles in the 4x50m Freestyle Relay! Incredible results for a team our size going up against clubs that are 3-6 times larger than our team! The Girls 12&under Freestyle Relay finished 16th place overall with fast times by Alessandra, Atria, Brooke and Sarah! In the 12&under Medley Relay everyone raced to best times with a team of Brooke, Esme, Atria and Alessandra! Our mixed Medley Relay team of Brooke, Marcus, Atria and Declan also had incredible splits by all four swimmers! A special congratulations to our relay only swimmers Alessandra, Declan and Sarah who all made the most of their opportunities to help the team!
