April 18 Time Trial Recap

We had a very successful time trial this past weekend as we start building our training through the spring. These time trials are a big part of our swimmer’s development and a great way to bring the team safely together. This year they have been so important to help keep our swimmers focused. It will be very exciting to be back on deck racing against other swim clubs at some point in the future.

We had a great turn out from our Swim Academy including five new swimmers competing in their first time trial with the team! Congratulations to Emilie, Esme, Olivia, Freya and Rhett who got their first taste of competition! We were really happy with their results and they fit right in with their first races!  Bianca, Tiam, Holly and Hannah all continue to develop their skills which leads to faster times! Our Swim Academy swimmers are starting to know their way around these small time trials and will be prepared for when we return to larger competitions in the future.

Monsoon swimmers took a break from racing the 200m Individual Medley and did an amazing job showing speed in their 100m Individual Medleys! Anya took 11 seconds off her time! Cameron dropped 10 seconds! Calais improved by 25 seconds! Zoe knocked off five seconds! Vincent took off 20 seconds! Harris raced to a best by 21 seconds! Pippa bettered her time by seven seconds! Frank dropped 15 seconds! Lily improved by 14 seconds! And Evan raced to a best time by 10 seconds! Very exciting results! The swimmers also raced the 50m Backstroke and 50m Breaststroke and showed progress on their turns and push-offs.

The time trial was full of first times for our swimmers. Bianca did an incredible job competing in her first 100m Individual Medley! Garrick raced in his first 100m Butterfly! Saige, Ally and Marcus were all really looking forward to their first 200m Butterfly and did an amazing job in the event!

Swimmers in Tsunami, Typhoon and Pursuit used this as a training meet. We have been doing a lot of work on IM turns and it showed in the fast 100m Individual Medley results! Fly continues to be a big focus in all of our training and it was great to see the Tsunami swimmers do such a great job in their 100m Butterfly! Everyone broke 2:00 for the first time in the event! A few of our swimmers have raced the 200m Butterfly this season but it was great to have everyone race the event. Great work by Brooke (who broke 3:00!), Ally and Marcus who all qualified for SwimBC Divisional Championships with their 200m Fly races! We also worked on breathing patterns in the 50m Freestyle, it didn’t lead to a lot of best times, but we were racing the event very quickly at the end of our winter training cycle and it will help set up even faster 50m Freestyles by the end of the season!

We will continue to build training over the next few weeks and look forward to our next Time Trial on Saturday, May 15! If you would like to see all of your swimmer’s results, please download the ondeck app from teamunify or check out our website. The login is the same for both, any problems just let Brad know.
