Swim Team Sign-Up Open!

Greetings from the Glenwood newsroom.

Registration for returning and new Glenwood Tiger swimmers is now open!

Swimmers ages five to 18 as of June 1 are eligible to sign up for team. We also invite any 19-year-olds who graduated from team in summer 2020 to return for one final season with the Tigers. Please note that a family’s 2021 pool dues must be paid in full prior to registration.

Just log into your family’s account with the team and register here. Please make sure all contact and billing information is updated and correct and sign the required waivers for your swimmer’s participation in meets and practices.

Questions about registration may be directed to team treasurer Traci Vagnucci.

Not sure if your child is ready for swim team?

In a normal year, we’d schedule screening dates when our coaches conduct simple swimming tests to determine whether new swimmers are ready for “Big Team” or better suited to the beginner’s experience provided by our “Pre-Team.”

Sadly, current restraints created by the pandemic don’t allow for a pre-team.

So, if your child is new to Glenwood summer swimming, meets our age requirements, and can swim a 25-meter lap without stopping to rest, you may register them. But if your child is uncomfortable with lap swimming and reluctant about the swim team experience, you may want to wait until next year.

Normally, the rest of this email would be chock full of information about the season to come. But summer swimming remains a complicated situation with a lot of moving parts. We and many other teams across the Montgomery County Swim League are still working out the details.

We do know that our Tigers will be able to race in swim meets. We’re excited about that and we hope you are, too.

We also know that we can hold morning practices that, once swimmers are in the water, should look and feel closer to normal—at least compared to the restrictions of last summer.

And, with the return of our awesome coaching duo Jeremy and Kelly Butler, we know for sure that our swimmers can look forward to a fun summer.

So go ahead and take a look at the season schedule, but please be aware that dates and events could change due to factors outside of our control. We promise to keep you up to date.

So, woohoo—a real season! Now here’s the fine print.

MCSL has Covid-19 rules this summer that everyone participating in the league must follow during all practices and meets.

The league says now that its Covid rules will not change, regardless of whether the county continues to reopen and roll back pandemic restrictions.

So, yes, it’s possible that our meets and practices will be operating under stricter requirements than those that govern Glenwood pool and the broader community. And, yes, the big-bummer stuff, such as the prohibition of spectators at meets and the cap on the number of athletes allowed at any one competition, may be here to stay this summer.

The important thing—and the goal of the MCSL board and everyone in summer swimming—is keeping our swimmers, coaches, volunteers, and families safe as vaccination efforts continue.

The MCSL rules for practices are here. The new meet protocols are here.

As we get closer to “go” time, share relevant information about these rules with your swimmers prior to practices and meets. Your Glenwood team reps and coaches will do their part throughout the summer with friendly reminders for families and swimmers.

That’s all the news for now, but you can count on us to report more season details as they become available.

Stay safe, Tigers!—Your Team Reps
