Parent Meeting Recap

Hello Waves Parents,

Tuesday night we had a great turnout for our parent meeting. However, for all of those who were not able to make it, here is a recap of what we went over:

Swimmers will need to bring a towel, goggles, shoes, and a cap (optional) to practice every day. If they have bags, clothes, or any other extra items, they can leave them against the fence in the field behind the West Pool. This year we added a new practice, Stroke Clinic, where kids 8 & up will work on their strokes with the coaches. The group is run very similar to Jr. Waves in which both will have one meet at the end of the year on July 9 to show off their progress over the season. We also have a make-up practice this year from 12-12:45, but we ask that people use this as a last resort because there is only one lane available for this practice.

After practice, we ask that kids grab their stuff and not hang out due to the amount of kids coming in and out.   Lastly, kids will have to stay in the groups they were put in for the entire season because of how big the team is this year. Waves will also be allowing swimmers to swim up or down, BUT just for this year.   Once we start swimming against other clubs next year, that will not be allowed.   Swimmers will need to swim within their age group.

Swimmers will need to bring the same stuff to meets as they do for practices, along with some Waves spiritwear to support the team. We will be giving each kid a Waves shirt at practice. This year there will be Intersquad Meets along with a Conference Meet and two meets against LFC! The first meet of the season is Thursday, June 17 and all of the Intersquads will either be on a Tuesday or Thursday night. Our Conference Meet will be July 17 where the team will be seperated into either a Blue or Gold team. Teams for this meet will be drafted by the coaches and hyped up for the entire last week of practice to try and give it a traditional conference feel despite the unusual season. We are also very excited to allow our swimmers to compete against another team. These meets against LFC will be first come first serve for the sign ups but we ask that swimmers only sign up for one of the two meets. Due to the size of our team, we need to send half our kids to the first meet and half of our kids to the second.

Most importantly, our meets would not be able to run without help from our amazing parent volunteers. Information about signing up to volunteer will be sent out at a later time. Volunteers will have the opportunity to sign up for jobs:  timing, timing table, bullpen, hospitality or distribution of heat winner awards. The season will then finish up and be celebrated with a fun pizza party and awards night at the pool on July 14.

We have set up a team Remind for immediate updates like rain delays or cancellations. This is a group text that gets sent out to anyone who is signed up for it. To sign up for Remind, text @wsscc to 81010. Also, we send out emails often with regards to upcoming meets, volunteering, and any other updates so we ask that parents be on the lookout for those. We would appreciate it if you emailed us questions as opposed to asking us during practice but we do respond regularly. If you have any questions, you can email [email protected]
