Swim Team - Picture Day, Potluck Dinner/Pep Rally/A Meet


Our first B Meet is under our belt!  We truly appreciate everyone’s willingness to work a little (or work a lot) to make it run smoothly.  Results will be posted in the Documents section of our Team Unify webpages in a day or two.


Will your swimmer be gone this Saturday?  If so, please email [email protected]  ASAP.  We must let the coaches know by Wednesday noon which swimmers will not be here, so they are not included in the meet sheet.  There is a lot of strategizing in how the meet sheets are put together, so we need complete information.  If your child is a “no show” to an A meet, their lane will be empty and we may not have the opportunity to substitute in another swimmer.  This is a big deal.  Please let us know


Picture Day details went out earlier today.  Join your teammates at 6:00pm on Thursday in the Upper Pool for the group picture.  Wear your team suit (or t-shirt).


Family Potluck Dinner and Pep Rally begins at 6:00pm on Friday.  It’s Taco Night!  Food assignments are by family last name:  Holmes Run Acres Hurricanes : Event (teamunify.com)


A - G: Meat: chicken, beef, pork, etc

H - N: Chips, shells, or tortillas  AND a condiment (sour cream, salsa, guacamole)

O - Z:  Toppings: Lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, beans, rice, etc

Each family is welcome to bring a tablecloth and their own beverages (lemonade will be provided) and enjoy socializing with your new best friends - i.e. other swim families.  Pep rally and cheers will follow.  All swim families are invited, regardless of if you’re participating in A meets, B meets, or are Tropical Storms.


Saturday Morning A Meet: Truro @HRA, 9:00am (warm-ups at 8:00am)

  • Parking: We want our visiting team to have plenty of space to park in our lot, so we ask that Hurricane families either 1) walk to the pool, 2) park at Woodburn Elementary and walk to the pool, or 3) park on a street in Holmes Run Acres, taking special care to not block any driveway.
  • Volunteer Slots: As of this very minute, we still need (1) Marshall, (5) Set-Up, arrive at 7:00am, (1) Mask Runner, (4) Relay Take-Off Judges, no experience required, and (5) people to help at the Hurricane Café, including folks to work the grills.  All deck officials should wear navy blue bottoms and white tops (also, bring a water bottle!) 7:00 Set Up Team gets to work

7:45 Team Reps and Coaches report to the Referee on the far side of the pool.

7:50 Marshals report to the Referee on the far side of the pool.

7:55 Marshals take their positions for warmups. Holmes Run Acres 5 minute warning for warmups.

8:00 When directed by the Announcer or Referee Holmes Run Acres has the pool for a 20 minute warm-up.

8:20 Holmes Run Acres clears the pool. Visiting Team 5 minute warning for warmups.

8:25 When directed by the Announcer or Referee Visiting Team has the pool for a 20 minute warm-up.

8:25 Stroke and Turn Judges meet with the Referee in the baby pool area.

8:35 Timers meet with the Chief Timer outside the bathhouse.

8:45 Visiting Team clears the pool. [Hurricanes perform the "sacrifice"]

8:50 Swimmers for Events 1 through 6 are called to the Clerk of Course.

8:55 All officials take their places for the meet.

 8:56 Opening announcement. National Anthem.

9:00 First event

Masking: We did better on Monday. All people over the age of 2 who are unvaccinated are expected to wear a facemask.  Swimmers in the team area and Clerk of Course should keep their masks on.  Masks should be removed before entering the pool for a swim event and placed in a baggie labelled with your name. 

All masked swimmers are encouraged to take regular "breaks" by distancing themselves from others, removing their mask for fresh air and drinking plenty of fluids.  If they begin to feel overheated, dizzy, or weak, they should keep their mask on and get the attention of a coach immediately.


  • Hurricane Café will be open for breakfastand then lunch! The menu includes bagels and cream cheese, donuts, fruit, snacks, candy and ice-cold beverages.  We will fire up the grills and have hamburgers and hot dogs for lunch, too!   Cash or cards are accepted.
