Greetings from the Glenwood newsroom.

The Tigers have their first B-meet away from home tomorrow and, parents, we need your help to make it a good experience. We still need four timers, a clerk of course, and one assistant head timer for this meet! These jobs are critical to a smooth-running event that starts on time.

We also need one more parent to join the crew that serves the $1 breakfast to swimmers during practices this Wednesday, June 30, from 10 a.m. to noon.

Please email Glenwood Parent Rep. Roland Schrebler as soon as possible if you can do one of these jobs. If your child is swimming in the meet and you’re not already signed up to volunteer, please consider doing so now.

We understand that life is busy, and we appreciate all the ways parents help to make Glenwood swimming a wonderful experience for the kids. If you sign up for a job and are unable to fulfill your obligation for whatever reason, we ask that you please try to find your own sub and let us know about the change so we can avoid a last-minute scramble for volunteers.

Mark Your Calendars

The summer swim season is heating up in more ways than one. Check out the most recent Coaches’ Update and this quick list of important upcoming events:

  • Wednesday, June 30: Glenwood @ Kenmont: Our good friends the Kenmont Tsunami will host the meet tomorrow evening. It’s a quick drive to their pool at 2900 Faulkner Place in Kensington and parking should be abundant. Kenmont concessions will provide pizza, drinks, and packaged treats. Warmups are at 4:30 p.m. and the meet begins at 5p.m. It will be hot, so please make sure you and your swimmers have plenty of water and sunscreen!
  • Friday, July 2: Pep Rally: Swimmers meet on the back deck at 6:30 p.m. The theme is “Glenwood in the Movies.” Parents, if you’re coming to the pool to watch the show and want a night off from cooking, Mina Tamales will be at Glenwood for Food Truck Friday. You can pre-order here and select the pool’s address, 10012 Gardiner Ave, as the pick-up location.
  • Saturday, July 3: Glenwood @ Damascus. Come to race, come to cheer! Meet the team outside the Damascus pool at 8 a.m. Our coaches release the lineup for this A-meet on Thursday. We’ll send more details for parents on Friday morning.
  • Sunday, July 4: Independence Day Party at the Big G. Glenwood will celebrate America’s birthday with games, races, and fun activities for all ages. The swim and dive teams will provide concessions with grilled food, cold drinks, and other tasty treats. (Pass on the glass, please. No glass of any kind is permitted at the pool, so leave the fancy champagne flutes at home.) The pool opens at 10 a.m., but consider arriving early because tables and chairs go fast!
  • Wednesday, July 7: Glenwood T-shirt Decorating. Swimmers will bring 100% cotton, green tees to the pool and style their own Glenwood spirit wear after their practices. For those who can’t attend morning practices, there also will be an opportunity to decorate shirts on Tuesday, July 6, during afternoon practices. (Haven’t bought a shirt yet? We will have a limited number of green tees available for purchase for $5 each at the June 30 Wednesday breakfast.)
  • Wednesday, July 7: Super-Senior Celebration Swim Meet. Join us back at Glenwood in the evening for this intrasquad B-meet as we honor the graduating class of 2020!

Division C Battle Royale

Here’s some exciting news.

Remember when we told you the Division C championship meet would be divided this season into three separate dual meets? Well, this is the summer of the pivot. Now all six teams in our division will come together on Saturday, July 24, at Damascus for a traditional divisionals contest!

Put that event on your calendars, Tigers, because the divisional meet is always exciting, with a ton of fast swimming, spirited cheering, fun relays, and broken records.

Speaking of broken records, we are proud to announce that two Glenwood Tigers did just that on Saturday at Clarksburg Village: Miles duLac crushed our host’s pool record for 11-12 boys breaststroke, which was 37.34, with his 36.16 swim. And Molly Benson edged the Clarksburg Village pool record in 15-18 Girls Freestyle of 1:00.47 with her time of 1:00.45.

Add these and other great Glenwood swims to the HUGE group of Tigers that traveled so far north to cheer on the team last Saturday, and we are reminded yet again that Glenwood wins every time, no matter the score.

That’s all the news for now. We’ll B-meeting you soon, Tigers!—Your Team Reps
