STAR-SPANGLED TIGERS

Greetings from the Glenwood newsroom.

It’s Fun Day Friday and the roar of our Tiger teens could be heard throughout the neighborhood this morning as they geared up for another weekend of fast swimming and fun at the pool.

First up is a pep rally today at 6:30 p.m. Meet on the back deck to see what our swimmers cooked up for “Glenwood in the Movies.” As always, parents, please let the swimmers and coaches take their places first so they have room to spread out for the show.

Damascus Bound

Glenwood faces off against the Damascus Dolphins Saturday morning, July 3, so decorate your cars and get ready for another road trip north.

There will be no meet-up at Glenwood this time for the traditional caravan. Instead, our team will gather at 8 a.m. outside the Damascus pool, located at 25730 Woodfield Road. It’s a hike, people, so plan on an early start!

Plan on a chilly start, too. The weather forecast for our arrival time in Damascus is a cool and cloudy 64 degrees, so please have your swimmers dress and pack accordingly. Warm-ups for the Tigers start at 8:25 a.m.

Here is more helpful information from our hosts:

  • Our team’s area is the grassy spot next to the Zimmerman Pavilion behind the competition pool on the deep-end side, as well as the grassy area behind the diving board.
  • There will be enough chairs for both swimmers and spectators, so no need to bring your own.
  • There should be plenty of parking in the pool lot to accommodate our team; parking attendants will help direct traffic.
  • There will be concessions. Damascus will have a variety of breakfast foods and coffee available for purchase during the meet. In addition, there will be grilled hamburgers and hot dogs for sale after the meet. Small bills are appreciated.
  • For parents and swimmers who like to track the outcome of the races, results will be posted by the breezeway above the water fountain.

If you need to double-check whether your swimmers are in this meet, here’s the lineup. Not swimming? Feel free to come along and cheer on the team—the more the merrier!

When we get the meet program, likely tonight, we will post in on our Twitter and send it via email.

And, if you’re curious about the Division C standings, you can see them here.

A Look Ahead

  • Sunday, July 4: Independence Day Party at the Big G. Glenwood will celebrate America’s birthday with games, races, and fun activities for all ages. The swim and dive teams will provide concessions with grilled food, cold drinks, and other tasty treats. The pool opens at 10 a.m. for this popular party and closes at 5:30 p.m.
  • Wednesday, July 7: Glenwood T-shirt Decorating. Swimmers will bring 100% cotton, green tees to the pool and style their own Glenwood spirit wear after their practices. For those who can’t attend morning practices, there also will be an opportunity to decorate shirts on Tuesday, July 6, during afternoon practices. We’ll tell you everything you need to know about this event in a separate email later this weekend.
  • Wednesday, July 7: Super-Senior Celebration Swim Meet. Join us back at Glenwood in the evening for this special intrasquad B-meet as we honor the graduating class of 2020! We’re bringing our hankies for this one, folks.

That’s all the news for now. Let’s see some fireworks, Tigers!—Your Team Reps
