A Meet Results & Highlights, NO PRACTICE MONDAY, Monday B Meet Opportunity for T

Despite a narrow loss to our friends at Rolling Hills, we had an awesome A Meet this morning.  See the attached Meet Results document for the details.  Highlights include:

  • Senior spotlights for our four graduating swimmers: Annabel Sullivan, Yuina Barzdukas, Sabrina Reyes and Erik Judy.  Thanks for being great examples of hard work, sportsmanship and teamwork!
  • Two of our swimmers set Team Records today: Olive Dunn (yet again) wore down her own record in the Girls 9-10 25Y Butterfly with a time of 14.34.  Her sister Zoe Dunn absolutely destroyed a 1972 record in the Girls 13-14 50Y Butterfly with a time of 29.03.
  • It was a perfect day to take down some relay records: the superstar squad of Zoe Dunn, Prix Hixson, Amira Traish and Lizzie Forde took even more time off their record set just last week.  Their new Girls 13-14 100Y Medley record is now 58.49.  The Girls 18&Under team swam the 200Y Free Relay in just 1.53.14.  Wave buh-bye to the record set in 1976.  Way to go Katie Alvarez, Zoe Dunn, Olive Dunn and Caroline Forde!

Breaking News: No Monday morning practice!  Enjoy the morning off, let the little ones come down from their weekend sugar high, and we’ll see you at the Monday evening B Meet….

Sign up for B meet events.  Swimmers are eligible to swim any two strokes they want, plus an Individual Medley (if they are able and willing).  If a swimmer placed 1st, 2nd or 3rd in an A meet event today, they cannot swim that same stroke at the B meet.  Email [email protected] by NOON MONDAY to let us know what you’d like to swim.

Absences for the Relay Carnival on Wednesday, July 7th: Relay Carnival is a really exciting event for all age groups, where swimmers will swim in freestyle relays, medley relays and a few mixed-age relays.  We need to know ASAP if your child is NOT available to participate.  Otherwise, the coaches may plug them into a relay team and expect you to show up at 5pm for warm-ups at Rolling Forest Pool.  We earn points for each legal relay swum, then the points are tallied up and the winning swim team gets a TROPHY.  It’s a big deal.  More info to come…

Absences for the A Meet on Saturday, July 10th. Please let us know if your swimmer will not be able to participate in the A Meet. We NEED TO KNOW by Wednesday at NOON so the coaches can create the best meet sheet for the team.

Monday B Meet: HRA @ Parliament Pool (8510 Parliament Drive, Springfield, VA 22151) Welcome to the Northern Virginia Swimming League (mynvsl.com)

You don’t need to RSVP to us, just show up at the B meet. They’ll line the swimmers up by the diving well to swim across! (For safety, Parliament will have guards in the water during this race) Your Hurricane teammates will be cheering!

  • Bathroom usage - All swimmers should come prepared to swim in their suits. They discourage the use of the bathroom as a changing room or to shower.  Face coverings are encouraged in the restroom regardless of vaccination status.
