Greetings from the Glenwood newsroom.

The final full week of the season is here. Time trials, A-meets, B-meets, pep rallies, t-shirt decorating, senior and super-senior celebrations, the dance and teen overnight—it all just raced by, didn’t it?

You know what they say: Summer is short, swim fast!

Speaking of fast swimming, our 4-1 Tigers travel to Damascus on Saturday, July 24, for the Division C Championship.

The coaches have emailed the lineup, and here’s your meet program for the big event (be sure to print your own copy). Swimmers should report to the team area at Damascus by 7:15 a.m.—just look for the Glenwood tents. We’ll send another email later this week with more details.

First, we have one final B-meet, this time against the Rock Creek Fins tomorrow, July 21.

The address for our host’s pool is 8619 Grubb Rd. in Silver Spring. Please meet at Rock Creek in our team area (to the right as you enter the pool) at 5:15 p.m. Glenwood warmups begin at 5:25 p.m. and the meet starts at 6 p.m. and ends promptly at 9 p.m.

Parking is available in the lower lot of the pool. If the lot is full, there is street parking on Donnybrook Rd. and other side streets. (Please do not park at the top of the hill on Grubb—the Ride-On bus has been known to clip cars as it comes around the curve!)

Pizza from Corner Slice will be available for purchase, as well as assorted beverages and snacks.

We still need one timer for tomorrow’s B-meet, a parent to label and organize ribbons, and an assistant clerk-of-course to help get the swimmers lined up and to their races on time. If your child is swimming in this meet, please email Roland Schrebler and offer to take on one of these important roles.

We also need more help to pull off a successful banquet on July 27. Our swimmers love this event and we love throwing them a good a party, but we can’t do it without you, parents.

We need more volunteers to help set up and decorate the banquet hall between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. We also need five more people to help serve food and then clear it away when dinner ends at 7 p.m., and we need one more volunteer to help check in families at the door.

If you’re short on your volunteer requirement or just enjoy pitching in, please check out the banquet jobs listed here and sign up.

Here are the details:

Tickets can be purchased only online by credit card.  Please sign into your account and follow the directions here.  Email Darcia Bowman or Traci Vagnucci with questions.

Please note: This is an indoor event. As such, we ask that unvaccinated individuals follow public health guidance for large indoor gatherings and wear masks when not eating and drinking. We appreciate your cooperation.

Did your child have a great time swimming with the team this summer? Were you wowed by the dedication and skill of our coaches—Jeremy Butler, Kelly Butler, Molly Benson, Jack Bowman, Celia Ford, Max Bowman, Leo Kugel, and Melanie Morford—as they led the Tigers through a fun-packed season of morning and afternoon practices, twice-weekly meets, and all those great Friday pep rallies?

If so, we invite you to join us in a show of appreciation.

Team treasurer Traci Vagnucci is collecting contributions for coaches’ gifts this week, via Venmo to @vboys and PayPal to [email protected] Please be sure to designate donations as “Big Team Coaches’ Gift.”

You can also go old-school and write a check or give cash. Checks should be made payable to Glenwood. You may leave contributions in the Vagnucci family folder in the manager’s office.

Typically, we collect enough money to give all our coaches a very nice cash bonus—a greatly appreciated gift from the parents. The deadline for gift contributions is Monday, July 26.

Email Traci Vagnucci with any questions.

That’s all the news for now. Get ready to rumble, Tigers!—Your Team Reps
