Greetings from the Glenwood newsroom.

The team is off to the races tomorrow, hitting the road early for another trip north to Damascus, this time for the Division C Championship. If you missed the big headline, the Tigers are 4-1 in the regular season!

The address is 25730 Woodfield Rd., Damascus. Please plan to meet the coaches in the team area along the side of the racing pool by 7:15 a.m. If for some reason you can’t make it on time, please email Coach Kelly Butler. The meet begins at 8 a.m.

Here’s the meet program—get it while it’s hot!

Our hosts invite everyone attending the big event to donate to the 3rd annual Damascus Gives Back food drive. Feel free to grab something to give from your pantries, Glenwood, but check the expiration dates—no expired items please!

Speaking of giving, we’re still accepting gifts for our eight phenomenal Big Team coaches—Jeremy Butler, Kelly Butler, Molly Benson, Jack Bowman, Celia Ford, Max Bowman, Leo Kugel, and Melanie Morford.

Team treasurer Traci Vagnucci is collecting contributions this week, via Venmo to @vboys and PayPal to [email protected] Please be sure to designate donations as “Big Team Coaches’ Gift.”

You can also go old-school and write a check or give cash. Checks should be made payable to Glenwood. You may leave contributions in the Vagnucci family folder in the manager’s office.

Typically, we collect enough money to give all our coaches a very nice cash bonus—a greatly appreciated gift from the parents. The deadline for gift contributions is Monday, July 26.

Email Traci Vagnucci with any questions.

We are returning to the Knights of Columbus this year for our big end-of-season celebration.

Some covered outdoor seating will be available for those who prefer to dine outside the building. The remainder of the evening’s festivities will take place inside the building, largely in the main banquet room. The exterior doors of that room will be opened to the outdoors for increased ventilation.

We recommend that unvaccinated individuals follow public health guidance and wear masks indoors during this event, except when dining. And, as always, anyone else who wants to mask up should feel free to do so.

Here are the details:

When:  Tuesday, July 27 from 6 to 10 p.m.

Who:    Swimmers and their immediate family, which means parents and siblings. Sorry, we cannot accommodate any extended family or friends because of space limitations. Children ages 12 and under must be accompanied by a parent or another adult designated as your proxy.

Where:  Knights of Columbus, 9707 Rosensteel Ave, Silver Spring.

What:  A celebration of the season and our swimmers' hard work. Expect an evening of buffet dining, dancing, and award-giving. Food will be served promptly at 6 p.m. so we can get the awards ceremony underway. Dancing with a DJ will follow. Dinner, dessert, and non-alcoholic drinks are included in the ticket price; cash bar for beer and wine. We cannot accommodate special food orders.

How:  The ticket price is $15 per registered Big Team swimmer and $20 for each additional family member (children 3 and under are free). Tickets are available only through advance purchase, first come, first serve. No tickets will be available at the door! The deadline for buying tickets is Sunday, July 25, at 9 a.m., and payment is required to attend any part of the banquet. Purchase tickets for your family only, please. If you are chaperoning another swimmer, their ticket must be bought through their family account.

Tickets can be purchased only online by credit card.  Please sign into your account and follow the directions here.  Email Darcia Bowman or Traci Vagnucci with questions.
