We had our first ‘regular’ swim meet with multiple teams at a different pool last weekend in 20 months! We had 17 swimmers compete at the Langley Short Course Invitational Meet with really promising results. Our Tsunami swimmers were learning the basics of bigger swim meets throughout the weekend and handled themselves really well. Swimmers in Typhoon and Pursuit were being challenged with multiple 200m and 400m events within a short time frame. They really did a great job managing their races and implementing proper race strategies.
A few highlights…
Cameron was outstanding throughout the meet! He really focused on
the skills we have been working on in practice, racing into his
walls and holding his underwater push-offs. This led to big time
drops in his events, including an improvement of 16 seconds in the
200m Freestyle!
Claire had amazing speed in her 50m Freestyle, getting very close
to breaking 30 seconds!
Josh had a really solid meet, executed race plans very well
including a four second drop in his 200m Breaststroke!
Saige broke six minutes in the 400m Freestyle for the first time
and had a really big drop in the 200m Individual Medley with a
great freestyle finish!
Garrick raced a lot of big events and kept getting better
throughout the weekend with strong best times in his 100m
Breaststroke and 200m Backstroke!
Ashton showed a lot of speed early in his races, making a big drop
in his 100m Backstroke and broke 1:30 in his 100m Breaststroke!
Stella had an almost perfect meet, showing her increase in strength
and did a great job maintaining technique throughout her races. She
had really big drops in both 400m events, a very well swum 200m
Breaststroke and a ton of speed in her 50m and 100m Freestyles!
Emma used her long strokes to have a big improvement in her 100m
Backstroke and broke 1:30 for the first time in the 100m
Freestyle!
Phillipa was very solid in all of her events, she is really
learning how to hold the water and slowing down her strokerate to
move through the water more efficiently. It really showed in her
400m Freestyle, 200m Freestyle and 200m Backstroke with impressive
best times! She also had a lot of speed in her 50m events!
Rafael has really been training more efficiently focusing on stroke
length and getting the most out of his kick. It really showed with
big best times in his 100m Freestyle, 200m Freestyle and 200m
Butterfly!
It’s very fun to watch Natalie Yiu race every time she goes
off the blocks! She is learning how to use her speed and it led to
best times in all of her events!
Natalie Yu had a very strong swim meet, leading to a long awaited
best time in her 50m Freestyle and solid swims in all of her
events!
Atria had some big firsts racing under 2:30 in the 200m Freestyle
and under 3:00 in the 200m Butterfly! Mia put together her timing
in her breaststroke events for big improvements!
