Minor, Roberts and Swanson Break Records At JO Meet

Fifteen swimmers from the Napa Valley Swim Team recently competed at the Adam Szmidt Memorial Long Course Junior Olympics, held July 15-18 at the Soda Aquatic Center in Moraga. Over 1,360 swimmers from 91 teams competed over the four-day swim meet.

Two NVST team records were broken during this meet. Twelve-year-old Megan Minor dropped a total of 4.6 seconds to break her existing team record in the 200 backstroke, swimming to a time of 2:34.45. Fourteen-year old Elise Roberts swam to a time of 1:20.60, breaking the 13-14 year old girls 100 breaststroke record, held by Adrian Talcott. Minutes later, 13-year-old Alex Swanson swam to a time of 1:20.42, breaking the record Elise Roberts just set. During the Championship Finals heat, Roberts broke the record again with a time of 1:19.07.

In the girls 9-10 year old division, Karenna Meyer swam to a best time in the 200 individual medley and achieved a new Long Course Junior Olympic time.

In the boys 9-10 year old division, Cayd Roberts swam to a best time in the 100 breaststroke and Quinn McMichael swam to a best time in the 100 butterfly.

In the 11-12 year old girls division, Minor achieved 100 percent best times and broke her existing 200 backstroke team record by swimming to a time of 2:34.45, finishing third overall. Minor also achieved new Pacific Reportable Times in the 400 freestyle (dropping over 11 seconds), 200 IM (sixth place) and the 100 freestyle. Minor also finished third in the 100 backstroke, dropping almost two seconds. Grace Murphy achieved her first Far Western Time in the 50 breaststroke, dropping 2.7 seconds. Olivia Ha-Hoang achieved 100 percent best times and swam to a new Long Course Junior Olympic time in the 100 backstroke and the 200 IM. Madi Anderson achieved a best time in the 400 freestyle, dropping 13 seconds. Nathalie Brewster represented NVST by swimming the 100 backstroke.

In the boys 11-12 year old division, Louis Ayers swam five events and achieved best times in the 200 freestyle and the 50 backstroke. Bradley John Erickson swam four events and achieved a best time in the 100 freestyle.

In the girls 13-14 year old division, Elise Roberts swam to a fifth-place finish in the 100 breaststroke and set a new team record with a time of 1:19.07. Mia Facey achieved 100 percent best times and her first 13-14 year old Far Western time in the 50 freestyle. Facey swam to best times in the 100 freestyle, 100 butterfly (dropping seven seconds), 200 butterfly and the 400 IM (dropping seven seconds). Haley Murphy swam to a new Far Western time standard in the 100 breaststroke and the 200 breaststroke. Alex Swanson achieved a new Far Western time in the 100 freestyle and swam to an eighth-place finish in the 100 breaststroke.

In the girls 17-18 year old division, Brittany Sicard swam to a seventh-place finish in the 100 breaststroke.

The Napa Valley Swim Team is a year-round swim team, offering competitive swimming and instruction for all ages and abilities. In addition, NVST offers a non-competitive training program, summer swim classes and pre-competitive swimming instruction.
