Our Marin Pirates Swim Team inaugural Swim-A-Thon was a great success! 85 swimmers raised $11,679 for the Marin Pirate Foundation, a non-profit whose sole purpose is to benefit the swimmers of the Marin Pirates.
All participants had two hours to complete a maximum of 200 lengths of the IVC pool. Swimmers were able to accept either a “per lap” or flat fee pledges. The top male and female from the age group team and the senior team each received a $50 gift certificate from NorCal swim shop.
Age-Group female: Maxine Davison $870
Age-Group male: Arel Shoua $390
Senior team female: Alexis Lee $500
Senior team male: Thomas Mercurio $575
Each year nearly 2,600 member clubs of USA Swimming conduct a Swim-A-Thon®. The Marin Pirate Foundation will retain 95% of the profits made from this event and send 5% to USA Swimming. The current goal of the foundation is to spend all the monies from the first Swim-A-Thon on special training equipment that can be used by all team members. Initially, we have purchased $2,500 worth of monofins for the age-group swimmers along with 50 “tempo-trainers”, small electronic metronomes worn on the goggle strap to aid swimmers in finding their ideal stroke count. We are pricing other items to be purchased in September and put into use during October.
The Pirates look to hold a second annual Swim-A-Thon in the spring of 2011. For information on how you support the event, or become a corporate sponsor, contact Jill Ruppenstein at email@example.com or at 415.310.0678.
