PASA JO+ Meet 11/13-14
Good luck all athletes participating in the PASA JO+ invite this weekend! The coaches will be Coach Erik, Coach Steve, Coach Carlene, Coach Luba, Coach Dave and Coach John. The meet is at Palo Alto High School, located at 50 Embarcadero Road, Palo Alto, California. Session A (swimmers 13 and older) will begin at 8:30am with warm-ups starting at 7:15am. Session B (swimmers 12 and under) warm-ups will begin at the conclusion of the a.m. session, but not before 11:00am. Meet will begin at Noon. Finals for all swimmers who qualify will begin no earlier than 4:30pm on Saturday and 4:00pm on Sunday.

The Zone meet January 15-16 is one of our mandatory annual team FUNctions! This year, there is a new rule to make sure that swimmers are experienced to prepare for the big meet: you must have swam in a meet BEFORE you go to Zones. Since this is a mandatory event for all swimmers, please sign up for a C/B/A meet before Zones!

There will be a mandatory team meeting Monday November 8th at 5:30pm! If you have yet to give John your sheets, please do so ASAP!

SCSC’s Tip of the Week
In browsing through my usual swim sites lately I've noticed that there are a lot of articles focused on goals. Don't get me wrong, there are ALWAYS articles on goal setting all over the place, but lately, they've been popping up more and more frequently. This is most likely because it is early in the season and this is about the time people start setting short-term goals and reassessing their long-term goals. A recent article by Peter Vanderkaay on caught my eye the other day. Vanderkaay is a mid-distance freestyler from the University of Michigan who was not only a Conference and NCAA Champion, but most recently, an Olympic gold medalist for the 800 Free Relay in 2004 AND 2008 as well as a bronze medalist in the 200 Free. He listed some of his keys to success in this short little blurb:
1) Set Goals : Know what you want to do before you start doing it. Set goals at the beginning of each season so you have something to work toward.
2) Work Hard : Commit yourself to working hard each day. To beat the competition, you must work harder than them.
3) Focus : Remember to look at the big picture and don't be distracted by the little things. Also, continue to learn new techniques for success.
4) Confidence : Know that you are sticking to the plan and that it's going to work. be confident and have faith in yourself.
5) Have Fun : Enjoy the journey and don't get too caught up in it. Make sure you have a balance in your life and people you care about.
Thanks Peter, I think those are all great things to always keep in mind. Have you set any goals this season yet???

Thanks for reading and see you next week!
