August 11, 2008
Neptune Swimmers established 63 new team records (57 individual events plus 6 relays) during this past season (September 1, 2007- August 30, 2008).
It should be noted that team records have been tracked since the team was started in 1955 (53 years), and many gifted athletes have splashed their way into the record books over that period. Record setters include swimmers that went on to swim at NCAA’s and win medals in international competitions (like the Pan American Games and Olympic Games). This year, 11 records from the 90’s were broken, 5 from the 80’s, and 6 from the 1960’s!
So it’s obvious that establishing new team records is an outstanding individual achievment. But these achievements are something that all members of the team across the generations should take pride in -- there are not too many swim clubs in the USA with a record board that matches up against the Neptunes. This has alot to do with the great attitude and quality of effort that all of our swimmers learn to bring to workout each and every day!
