February Challenge Results
March 8, 2011
On February 5th and 6th, Bellevue Club swimmers took to the ferries and sailed across the Puget Sound to the quaint city of Bainbridge Island for the February Challenge. With the clock ticking on swimmers who are trying to qualify for Age Group Regionals, this meet provided one of their last opportunities.
BCST took top honors in the meet, outscoring second place Bainbridge Island Swim Team by a score of 2,220 to 1,461. The Tigershark Swim Team took third place, with Chinook following in fourth, and Ohana Swim team rounding out the field in fifth.
Several Age Group Regional times were picked up over the weekend, and more grew ever so closer. Congratulations to Lianna Sutich, who broke the 1:00 barrier in the freestyle for the first time, leaping right over 59 seconds, finishing with a 58.54. Special mention should be made of Coach Bret Bogachus, who showed the younger swimmers how it’s done by capturing first place in the 50 back and 50 fly.
The only down side to the weekend was that the Bainbridge Island Swim Team couldn’t repeat last years magic and get us out of the meet earlier on Sunday to catch any of the Super Bowl. Despite their valiant effort, finishing 45 minutes ahead of schedule, by the time families exited the fairy in Seattle to head home, the last minutes of the big game were winding down. Sigh. Maybe next year!
Great job BCST!!!
